2023 Draft Prospect Watch List and Discussion

Any Haener fans got any thoughts on Fresno pass rusher David Perales?

Haven't seen but 3 clips of him, but he appears to have some impressive tools. Built like a 34 OLB, but curious if he can make it as a situational pass rusher.

First: Wildly impressive ghost move. Very fluid and bendy.

Second: I'mma call his first step a false step, but he smokes USC left tackle. Gets on his toes feinting an inside move, and once the tackle bites, hits him with an accurate 2 hand swipe and turns the corner. Over runs the tackle, but has the motor to finish.

Third: shows some nice speed to power, collapsing the pocket again vs USC left tackle. LT eventually reanchors, but Perales keeps working. It's not easy to bring down Caleb Williams when he's working around the pocket trying to make magic happen a la mini mahomes.

That really sucks. Former first round level prospect is choosing to rehab from his injuries as a college player as opposed to being on an NFL roster. Niners aren't ponying up for Ward (.........yet), so safety will be a big need. Oh well. Next man up.................

Oh wow, Iowa DL Lukas Van Ness, someone I had pegged as a day three target just made Dane Bruglers top 50! Shows what I know...I thought I was the only one high on him and clearly I was not nearly high enough

Now he was mocked at #8 overall by Daniel Jeremiah. I have an eye for talent I guess but am a terrible judge of draft value. Lesson learned to guess draft value by talent, not by what media is saying (or not saying) that early in the process.

Also of note, my CB2 Devon Witherspoon who has been getting a lot of press lately was DJs CB1 and a top 10 pick. Glad to finally see Ringo dropping out of the CB1 spot in these early mocks.

In sadder news, Sedrick Van Pran is returning to school for reasons I can't understand
Not even particularly a fan of his as a prospect, and I don't think he realistically ever gets there, but rewatching yesterday's game and how dominant Micah Parsons is and the only prospect in this year's class with a similar skill set to Parsons is Georgia's Nolan Smith. He's small, and has no idea what he's doing out there, but this guy is twitchy, bendy, elite motor, sideline to sideline speed, and is just freakishly strong.

How about that TCU RB?
All the major College All Star games have happened or are going to be happening in the next two weeks. The Hula Bowl was on January 14th and the East-West Shrine Game, the NFLPA Collegiate All Star Game and the Senior Bowl are all on the schedule. Can't wait to see who emerges from the crowd in these games. Always a good indication of potential NFL talent if kids do well in these games.
Still early but Deonte Banks is a dawg.
