accuracy is where Young would kick Richardson's ass I imagine.
as fans hard to sit down with these guys and figure which one is wired like Brady / Mahomes.. and which is wired like Manziel or JaMarcus.. draft is always a gamble so can't say a ton with conviction.. but Richardson is very intriguing to me
If we had a top 3 pick I think I would be hoping we could avoid them both.
Agreed if I was on a team in that range.
Purdy has changed the way I think about QBs.
Not that I think drafting super late QBs and expecting league leading performance is anything other then a bit of luck....
When I look at Bryce Young (or Mac Jones types) and see all that talent around them... I now think "hey that shows me he can use talent around him." vs "he can make people around him perform"
On this 49ers team loaded on offense like it is, I would be fine picking up Bryce Young. I would want the best guy that is proven he can get the ball to top tier guys.
If the 49ers are in the gutter like the early Alex Smith years, I absolutely want to be certain the guy can thrive (with his arm) in terrible conditions and the day he walks on to the 49ers practice squad he is throwing to the best skill players he has ever played with. The 49ers skill position guys have got to be better then what he threw to college. For example... if Alabama is sporting 3 potential first round draft choice WRs....you don't draft that QB to throw to Arnez Battle and Brandon Lloyd. ( I know Alex Smith did not have top WRs, this really is not about Alex)
That is what Purdy has taught me. Take a guy that will fight for every win...knowing his guys are dropping balls and is use to having no time behind a hobbled together oline and he can still rise to the occasion. No he is not going to win all the games, but if he keeps the game competitive ...you have a potential QB. If he has NFL size and a NFL arm that is as close as we can get to knowing the QB is not the weak link before we draft him.
To me that weeds out a lot of stuff. You don't get a Mac Jones type personality from that guy. He will transfer or just go trough the motions. If he does not have the talent, the team will just flounder.
Sure you can't expect Brock Purdy every year, but history has proven you don't get a Peyton Manning every year either. The draft is still a gamble.
