Dorian Thompson Robinson aka "DTR" UCLA QB

Sam Darnold isn´t safe either. They cut Nate Sudfeld last year and to be honest he was solid in the pre-season. They already showed that they were willing to eat some salary.
But honestly, all these meetings with DTR this offseason, I think it´s a big smokescreen.
Nobody knew last year they were searching a back up QB in the latter rounds.
I would be happy if they draft DTR, don´t get me wrong but I don´t know it feels too obvious at this point.
I could see them liking Clayton Tune or Jaren Hall.
Ultimately, I hope they choose a QB that can scramble.

Perhaps but you know the guy they talked to most last year? Spencer Buford

Yeah, I don't think this is a smokescreen. It's just..interesting. If they take a QB, I'm just hoping they can last on the practice squad because I think Darnold can be a monster in this system (not great, but definitely one of the better backups). If Trey's accuracy has improved and willingness to let the ball rip, look out. And we know what we have in Brock.

They're going to have to take a small school prospect if they want to put one on the PS. Unless they PUP Purdy and play IR game with the rook and bring him back if we get an injury to one of the top 3. Or they could be looking to Treyde one of them.

I see what you did there.
I mentioned it somewhere else, but I'm pretty sure this front office and coaching staff prioritizes talent on a rookie deal, and so that would make me think Trey Lance is here to stay. That said I do know that when they speak of Trey Lance it is no longer with a ton of optimism, but with an heir of being dispirited. That said, I'd assume this homework on quarterbacks in the draft has more to do with questions revolving around the health of purdy's elbow and his ability to play this year than it does trying to replace trey

I see it more as, its year 3. Put up or shut up and we have a guy that can do the thing. They like him, but there are no guarantees.

If they draft this kid in the 3rd or 4th rounds, you can almost guarantee Trey Lance will be traded. There's no sticking a 3rd or 4th round rookie on the practice squad. It could also mean Purdy won't be back this season but highly unlikely since he avoided TJ surgery.

or the other question....is Lance going to be on the team post-draft?

No, and No

If they are serious about DTR then that is bad mojo for Lance, since we already signed Darnold

DTR is better than Trey Lance right now!
I can see Purdy stashed in the PUP. He would have to miss the first 4 games of the season, which is actually expected anyways. He wouldn't count.
Let Lance, Darnold and DTR make the roster.
You'll have 4 regular season weeks at least, starting either Lance or Darnold.
Once Purdy comes back healthy and 100% ready, whoever was better between Lance and Darnold is kept, the other is traded.
But knowing the 49ers, one of them will already be hurt and on IR, so Purdy would come back and you'd still have 3 QB on the roster.
Love the bias takes in this thread. Shocking who is stating it.

This is by far the more logical approach.

drafting a day 3 QB means little in regards to moving Lance or Sam. Brock going on PUP is a real possibility and they need live arms in camp. People acting like we're gonna keep all 11 draft picks are out of their minds.

If they drafted him then they could wait longer to bring Brock back to make sure the elbow is completely healed. Give him more time to strengthen his arm.

But if he's medically cleared it would be pointless. Again its not like he had TJ surgery. I think if he's medically cleared by August, I think he could either wind up on PUP and miss 4 weeks. But I have no doubt he'll be back in the middle of TC.
making a draft prediction...

Shannalynch trade back from one our 3rds to receive a high/med 4th and a 7th in return and draft DTR in the 4th round
it was fun watching him hurdle would be tacklers while at UCLA, he only cleared about 25% of his attempts LOL... if he tries this in the NFL he will get snapped in half... regardless, he is a tremendous athlete who can really spin it and a fierce competitor as well, lots of fun watching him talk smack after throwing/running for a TD
