Caleb Williams QB USC Trojans

This kid is making it really easy to root for his downfall that's for sure.

It depends his reasons for those choices. If it's just because it's who he is, Then no problem. But if he is making those choices to just garner attention, Then that's a red flag.
I have a friend that's a huge Bears fan for some reson. He's lived in Oregon all his life and isn't od enough to really remember their one SB.

Anyway, he's really skeptical of Williams. I talked to him yesterday and asked who he would pick and he couldn't come up with an answer. He's snake bitten by all the terrible QBs they've had in the past. They have to take Williams and hope he turns out to be what the experts say he is. Passing on him and taking another QB could be a huge mistake. Bears fans 10 years from now could be saying"we could have had that guy". If he doesn't work ut then he's just another in a long line of failed QBs but you have to take him. Every QB in this draft has warts.

I have a little empathy for the Bears. When you draft number 1 can be just as important as who.you draft number 1.

Browns take Mayfield in 2018, Cardinals take Murray in 2019, Bengals take Burrow in 2020, and the Jags take Lawrence in 2021.

All the picks were the right choice but wildly different results.

I believe the 49ers were right in trying to find a more dynamic QB than JG. They gave up a lot to move up but at the time they felt it was worth it if Lance panned out. Unfortunately they and many other scouts over valued Lance. All the QBs in that years' draft were over rated. Even Lawrence hasn't set the league on fire although he's improving.

The move was correct. The player wasn't. It was a gamble but when you don't get the opportunity to draft a QB that high very often you have to take a chance.

Jalen Daniels is just as athletic if not more so and way less of a head case. I'm not sold on Caleb Williams.

Like I said, every QB in this draft has some question marks. Health. Consistency. Mental makeup.

The mental makeup of Caleb Williams is hugely concerning. That usually is a very big indicator. Ryan Leaf for example. Or Kap who just wanted to kneel and be a social justice warrior more so than a football player. If a players focus is somewhere else like attention seeking (Caleb) that very often does not work out. In all NFL history. You are hard pressed to find guys with that mental makeup who work out well. It's all football, film room, practice field, workout, first guy in and last guy out mentality. It's not have a side show for attention. I would be very careful with this pick.

That is just as an example of the first two picks that people had trouble separating that ended up vastly different. My only skill in scouting QBs is being good at picking busts, which I guarantee Caleb Williams will be a bust. Daniels does seem to look to have all the tools to succeed in the NFL.

Well Jayden Daniels did have Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr to throw to. People want to bring up how Purdy has this or that to throw to, but its funny no one brings that up with Jayden Daniels. IMO I wouldn't draft Jayden Daniels in the 1st round either. But I would take Daniels over Caleb Williams. I like Drake Maye the most but NC QB's are hard to trust in the NFL.

I think Kolohe nailed it with if he is doing it for attention , big red flag.

Highly disagree. Have yall hung out with Gen z? My sister is part of that Gen and A lot of kids are like that these days. It's nothing special. He could still be a bust, but the controversy with the pink stuff is just old heads not comprehending how the new generations is. Like honestly I wouldn't have thought of this if people didn't highlight it.

Plus Chicago went through Dennis Rodman, a guy wearing naik polish shouldn't be that weird.

Rodman was the weirdest guy in the NBA.

It's not just pink fingernails or pink phone or whatever. It's the crying in the stands to mommy to "I just want to go home and cuddle with my dog" to "Wanting ownership in whatever team drafts him" comments that give me red flags about him. I'd be pretty worried if I was a Bears fan.

All of this . But I get it , we are old heads who can't relate . But so are owners, coaching staff , front office people , players etc.

GMs could be concerned with how their teams culture adapts to this new generation (especially at QB ).

If you have a Charles Haley/ Garrison Hearst type on your squad , probably want their locker pretty far away from Caleb .

I'd rather have someone who is emotionally invested in winning than a Jay Cutler who doesn't give a s**t.

Plus he never wanted ownership. That was an unconfirmed rumor. Idk why thats still mentioned.

Ownership is probably going to be an option for some of the true franchise QB. Their salaries are escalating so fast that teams may not be able to make it work under the cap. stock options may be the next big thing. The NFL will need to decide if that counts toward the cap.
