He hasn't played even 1 down in the NFL. I think he will flame out. Too much big in the head for his own good. He reminds me of Jamarcus Russell. I could see him flame out in the NFL for sure. Nobody knows for sure. But the attitude and mindset is absolutely horrible.

The only similarity between Jamarcus and Caleb is they are both black .

Russell was much bigger and couldn't run like Caleb. He also wasn't near as accurate. I think what has scouts drooling is the way he emulates Mahomes with his improvisation. He's much better than Mahomes was at this same period in his career.

Mahomes didn't have the talent that Caleb had in college. Mahomes also couldn't hold the ball as long as Caleb could in college.

That's debatable. He had a good core of receivers at Texas Tech and Mike Leach calling the plays in that wide open offense. He wasn't facing defenses in the Big 12 lke Caleb is. Utah. ND. Oregon. Washington. All better than the crappy D they played in the Big 12. I think that's one reason Mahomes wasn't drafted earlier. NFL teams were suspect of any QB coming from that conference.

Debatable for real?? USC has three players that look to be day one and day two picks. Not to mention USC's defense is pretty loaded. What did Mahomes have???

He has a lot more on this team than what Mahomes had in College. They are loaded. Still 2 losses and out of the playoff already.

Mike Leach didn't coach Mahomes

Even though that was a losing team, Mahomes was the one that carried that team. That's pretty much what was discussed in the Mahomes thread back in 2017.

Yeah , Mahomes was extending plays in college bc they sucked . Caleb is extending plays bc he isn't staying with in the timing of the offense .

I misread the article on Mahomes. It was Leach's offense but Kingsbury had taken over after Leach left. He had good receivers. Maybe not greart but he had 45 guys that could make plays in that crappy conference.

Bottom line here is Mahomes didn't get drafted until #10 in a weak year for QBs. Caleb Williams is the probable #1 overall pick at this point. That doesn't mean he'll be great but it means that the scouts consider him to be a great prospect.

Honestly I think he is pretty bad at reading the field and going through progressions. Because he is almost always playing off schedule.

Purdy now or Purdy 262nd pick in 2022??

Purdy now, no doubt there are teams that would take Purdy over Caleb.

From what I've seen of Caleb Williams, its a hard pass for me.
Purdy now. Listen, I love Purdy but he isnt close to being the talent Williams is. But dont take my word for it. Check out the comments from a long term GM..

You still didn't answer my question??

And why am I gonna listen to a GM when 31 GM's got ot wrong 261 times??
I did answer your question. And... any guy who has been a GM for 17 years knows a LOT more than you do. LOL.

Tell me, do you think Purdy would be the 1st pick in next years NFL draft if he was coming out now? I just ask because I cant find ONE mock draft that doesnt have Williams going #1

LOL if you think USC is loaded on defense. Obviously you dont watch their games. They are awful on defense.
As for their talent, it must not be on the O line because Williams has been running for his life every time they play a good team. Utah was all over him yesterday from the first snap. Williams isnt perfect but he has a ton of talent which is why he will be the 1st pick in next years draft.

Who cares? What a stupid debate that is utterly pointless

I will say Caleb in college is a choke artist who sucks in big moments

maybe that changes in nfl but an nfl GM taking him should be worried.

Wow and I'm the one that doesn't watch games you say, Williams has all day to throw the ball. He runs because of what he wants to.

Show me where he runs for his life again??

How many times USC's defense shutdown Utah's offense, it was USC's offense and Caleb who kept f**king up. Hard pass for me, give me Riley Leonard or Drake Maye over Caleb all day!!!

Yeah, a guy who has never taken an NFL snap VS a guy who has arguably the best start to an NFL career for a QB. Just because you are a terrible armchair GM in this stupid hypothetical, doesn't mean that the other, smarter, people who actually do the job think like you. If Trevor Lawrence had played as well as Purdy, no one would say the silly things that they say with Purdy. He could be the second coming of a Brady or Montana, but dudes on the internet see some college kid with a rocket arm and speed, and they bust in their pants while showing the actual elite NFL QB the door. Give me a break.

let me ask you a question, would every NFL GM trade Joe Burrow for Caleb Williams? f**k no, because actual production always trounces hypothetical production.
[ Edited by Chance on Oct 22, 2023 at 10:32 PM ]
Any GM that has a chance to draft Williams would be questioned if he passed him up. I guess he could go for Penix but Williams seems to be the consensus #1. Even the Niners would be crazy to pass him up if he was there when they picked. Of course he won't be so it's a silly idea. At the worst he would be an upgrade over Darnold or you could trade him to another tam for multiple picks.

It's impossible to know how good he'll be in the NFL. His athletic skills are way better than Purdy and unlike Lance, he'll have 2 years of starts at a top level school. Whether he is as quick to see the open receiver as Brock is another story. College football relies more on big explosive plays so he's not playing in a system like Brock. One thing he does is keep his eyes downfield when he runs out of the pocket. That's how he makes a lot of those big throws.
