Holy ****, that return at 2:40 was sick

I don't study prospects anymore, so this tidbit is really for you guys doing the deep dive--with how important DBs are in today's run game fits, the focus on DB run defense doesn't seem to be getting the necessary attention by talent evaluators. Honestly, it should be the first thing you guys focus on when evaluating DBs. One thing I learned from Bill Belichick's philosophy years back on evaluating DBs was the importance of physicality and tackling as a DB. He said something along the lines of him preferring a coachable DB that could tackle and play physical over a pure coverage/athletic DB that can't tackle. This has been highlighted this week with KC's defense: they have arguably the best tackling backfield in the NFL. DBs that can't tackle, fit gaps and play physical are massive liabilities in 2024 with the way teams are defending these high-flying offense.

Best tackling DBs I've seen so far:

Mike Sainristil, Michigan
Jahdae Barron, Texas
DeJean Cooper, Iowa
Caelen Carson, Wake Forest
Deantre Prince, Mississippi

Huge fan of the bolded specifically

There's alot to like I want him to play nickle real bad for us. An OL would be nice but rookies take time and I don't want bone head mistakes like Burford in OT 3 and 4. I really like the over the shoulder INTS, his ball skills are incredible.

A bit skinny but looks like he can play CB as well
I've seen a lot of fans of Max Melton, I'm still working thru film review but I'm pretty disappointed in what I've seen.

Dude reminds me too much of Isaiah Oliver. Let's his guy get off the jam and run away from him too easy in man.

I was not super impressed with his run defense either.

DeJean will be gone well before 31.
TJ Tampa has been the guy I've really liked but he's slotted for early-mid second although with a stellar combine he could certainly move up.
Added Akeem Dent to my list of safety prospects I think we could target. Kid takes very well to coaching. Love his instincts.

Would we have to take Sainristil at 31?

Yup no way he makes it to our 2nd

We'll see about the combine. I think he makes it to the 2nd. There's some good options this year IMO so we don't need to panic or reach for anyone.
Renardo Green, FSU is a guy.

Agree, I just don't think he will make it to OUR 2nd. But yeah I kind of like the depth of this years class. Not much blue chippers, but depth is good. Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell are thee guys for me; I like both more than the Bama boys
Khyree Jackson out of Oregon has some really intriguing tools.
Tykee Smith from Georgia has some valuable versatility the combine will be huge for him.
