Two guys I continue to be impressed with: Brevyn Spann Ford (Minnesota) and Erick All (Iowa). Iowa is legit turning out to be like a TE factory.

Ford is a monster who can block yet is a great athlete that can make an impact as a receiver. Does seem to double-clutch sometimes but the dude is an absolute load to try to bring down. Watching him drag tacklers and require 3+ guys to take him down has me impressed. Erick All is a tough customer with good hands and decent blocking too.

Another guy is Ben Sinnott from KSU. Dunno if we'll have a shot at him though.

Honestly its a meh TE class but if they're going to take someone, Spann-Ford and Sinnott would be my favorites. I think both were underutilized as receivers in their respective offenses and both are willing and able blockers and a lot more polished than the guy they ̶w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶o̶n̶ took a flyer on in Latu last year.

Sinnott isn't going to threaten defenses over the top but he has the route running and awareness to shake loose from LB's and to identify the empty spots in a zone. I think he'd represent an instant upgrade over Dwelley. He reminds me a lot of Zach Ertz if Zach Ertz could actually block.

If they want a late round developmental player, Tanner McLachlan of U of A is interesting.

Zach Heins!!

6061, 264. Reliable hands; extends to catch balls well outside of his frame. 2-sport highschool athlete, basketball player. SDSU TE pipeline.

I'll also take Isaac Rex (6050, 250) or McCallan Castles (6040, 249)

All those guys are interesting to me. I agree with Phoenix. I've scouted about 10-12 TE prospects and haven't been really blown away by any so far. We do need another 2/3. Brayden Willis honestly looks more like a FB/H-back type. He gets engulfed at the LOS and is definitely not the best fit as a blocking TE.

I've been in the process of creating my personal board of guys I would want to pick. The five on my list that I think we'd have a shot at are:

Brevyn Spann-Ford, Minnesota
Erick All, Iowa
Zach Heins, South Dakota St
Tanner McLachlan, Arizona
Ben Sinnott, Kansas St
I'm intrigued by Ben Sinnott

Per Draft Network:

Size:
Height: 6'4" | Weight: 245 lbs

Accomplishments:
John Mackey Award watch list (2023) • All-Big 12 First Team (2022)

"Ben Sinnott is an alignment-versatile tight end who is an effective run blocker who can be valuable to teams that use diverse run schemes."

Strengths:
  • Alignment-versatile
  • Run blocking
  • Effort
Concerns:
  • Ability to separate
  • Speed to separate vertically

Film Analysis:
Ben Sinnott is a fourth-year player for the Wildcats who returned to the team after receiving First Team All-Big 12 Honors. Sinnott served in the utility role for the Wildcats, asked to consistently line up in different alignments and execute various responsibilities blocking and receiving.

As a run blocker, Sinnott displays good technique, which makes him an effective and efficient blocker. At the traditional in-line TE alignment, Sinnott can explode out of his hips at the snap and into the defender, creating effective collisions that stall bigger defenders. Working against defenders comparable to his size, he can not only sustain blocks but generate movement along the line of scrimmage. Sinnott can also serve as a lead blocker on run plays.

The concern of Sinnott's game is his effectiveness in the passing game. It appears that Sinnott lacks elements of explosiveness that would allow him to create consistent separation. In the passing game, Sinott profiles to be more of a short-to-intermediate threat where he has shown to be able to make contested catches/catches in high-traffic areas. Because Sinnott lacks the athleticism to create separation at times, he appears to be more effective against zone defenses, where he can work to find vacant spots rather than needing to create separation from defenders in man coverage.

Overall, Sinnott's value is in his versatility as a player and his effectiveness as a run blocker. Sinnott working on his ability to run routes and creating separation from defenders would add another element to his game to make him a tight end who can be utilized in all situations.

I like the names mentioned here, but two more to add to the mix.

1) Cade Stover - Ohio State.
He has a blended skill set of Juice and Kittle with the intangibles for something more. I'd love to see him as a flex FB as we think about a succession plan to Juice. Former LB. Good blocker. I don't know if he's truly 6-4, so combine will dictate. He's older player, so could be a Round 3 comp to Round 5 type range.

2) Trey Knox - South Carolina.
Gives me Delanie vibes. Late rounder to beef up the competition.
While I don't love this class, I wouldn't my AJ Barner(Michigan) Seems like a damn good blocker Ala kittle. While being adequate as a receiver.

Isaac Rex, BYU intrigues me as well
We already drafted that stud Latu in the 3rd last year and he didn't play. So he's essentially our rookie draft pick

The Niners also drafted Willis last year so I seriously doubt they take a TE in what most people would agree is a bad TE class. Maybe 6th or 7th rd. Just too many other needs

"Stud"

Dude was horrible. Vance Mcdonald hands and kept whiffing as a blocker. If they're not confident in him going forward then another TE could be on the list.

Maybe if I put it in italics you would know I wasn't serious 😂

I definitely thought that was a joke. What I'm hoping is that there is no way that Latu comes back being that bad. He was definitely overdrafted, but had a 5th round grade if I'm not mistaken, which is still solid backup territory. I'd look at a TE no earlier than 6th. Now if someone falls, sure. But it's just not high up on the list.
