Building a team to beat the Kansas City Chiefs

Stopped reading after the D line is not a winning strategy!!

Both Snead and Jones are free agents. Both are looking for massive new contracts and the Chiefs have less than $25 million in cap space and have to sigh Humphrey and others to new deals.

It's very unlikely that they can bring back both of those guys and I'm guessing Jones will be the one left out.

If AA shockingly retired.. we better pay Jones whatever he wants lol.

I mean Jones won't be the same player here if teams know where he is at all times and can double him. He's effective in KC because they move him all around and use the blitzes to get him singled up. Just like with Hargrave our current system won't use him effectively.

IF AA goes i'd expect them to target DJ Jones once Denver cuts him.

I hope so. They're great at developing DB's. They won't find another Chris Jones though.

We had them on the ropes, but a kick that bounced off Luter's foot and McCloud mishandled spotted them an easy 7 points. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. To win in a super bowl in this league you need good players, good coaches and good luck. We didn't have good luck.

This
We need to payoff the Officials.
run back nearly the same team and do the following:

improve right side of the oline
better depth at LB and Safety
Run the ball more

Each time we get to the Super Bowl, KC is waiting for us on the other side. And, each time KC beats us. I think we need to design a team that can foremost beat KC, and I think that requires some fundamental changes in the team.

It's hard to build a team to beat the Chiefs considering they're always changing themselves. Their 2019 team was extremely different than their 2023 team. They're going to lose some guys on the defensive side this offseason, so they'll continue to look different.

With the way the league is changing I'm starting to feel that the interior is more crucial than ever, on offense and defense. Having elite tackles on the OL is great, but you can just do like what KC does and hold the s**t out of elite edge rushers to neutralize them and the refs definitely aren't going to call it all the time, or even most of the time.

On the OL you focus on having a top center like Baltimore, KC and Detroit that can quarterback the line and two stout guards on either side of them. On defense you need guys inside that can produce pressure up the middle and also eat up blockers to force the run game outside.

For a QB like Purdy you can follow what Payton did for years to help protect Brees too, build up the interior OL to give your smaller QB space and time to throw, continue to invest in pass catching backs and quality receiving TE's.
It's simple really. You make you have the final possession and you score on it. The Niners were set up to do that when they had 3rd and 4 with 1:57 left and Chiefs only having 2 timeouts. Convert that and Mahomes doesn't get the ball back. The other way is you blow him out like the Bucs did. But you can never let him have the ball with a chance to win it because he will do it everytime. Mahomes did barely anything for 3 quarters in this game but his defense kept it a FG game. Our offense didn't take advantage of it and put the game away.

It's why I didn't understand what the Bills were doing. Only down 3 they have the ball 1st and 10 around KC's 25 and KC only has 2 time outs and Allen immediately looks to the endzone for Shakir. Your Josh Allen, Use your legs and strength and just take your time, Make sure when you score, That there is hardly no time left. Even if he hit Shakir for that TD, Mahomes would have just marched down the field and win it anyways.

hero ball.
Have Greenlaw not get hurt.
We have a team that can beat KC. Shoulda, coulda, woulda i know but it took 5 quarters for them to beat us. If a couple things went our way we would have won in regulation. CMC fumble which we could have at least got a field goal, punt not hitting Luter setting up KC to score thier 1st TD, missed xtra point. Thats at the very least 11 point difference. But the football gods were not kind to us.

All we can do is try and get better at some positions and replace what we lose. We have some draft capital for the first time in 3 years so i'm excited about that.

It would've gone into double overtime because both teams must possess the ball. The clock running out doesn't mean their possession would end.

"If the score is still tied at the end of an overtime period — or if the second team's initial possession has not ended — the teams will play another overtime period. Play will continue regardless of how many overtime periods are needed for a winner to be determined."
