I will say the same thing this year that I say every year. When you are drafting in the top half of the first round, take the best player available (other than a QB). Drafting for need is how you end up with Solomon Thomas and Javon Kinlaw.

Soloman was considered the BPA and a safe pick.

By whom? NY85?

By a f**k ton of people. Mahomes should have been the 1st pick and Garrett should have been the pick at two if we're gonna play make believe.

Solomon was nowhere near safe. He was a late riser to the draft board

And Leonard Fournette was the next AP. Mitch was the #1 QB, Cory Davis was the #1 WR, and John Ross was the fastest man alive lol. A lot of s**t was wrong from a lot of people

It's a deep and stacked class. Winston Jr is a stud; best technique/sound tackling safety prospect that I may have ever watched prior to a draft. This is the draft to get DL and Secondary help and yes I know we need OL.

Big fan of Winston myself.

Aye, Garret was the only sure thing in that draft.

A lot of online draft guys had him as a top 5 on their big boards.

Josh Norris had him 2
Matt Miller had him 6
NFLDraftBreakdown had him 5
NFL drafrcoutdown had him 4
Rob Rang had him 2
Todd McShay had him 4
Mel Kiper had him 4
Mike Mayock had him 2

So yes a lot of folks had him top 5 and I'm sure most teams did too. Only armchair GMs from 5 years into the future think that was a reach.

Man is it me or does this draft kinda stink as far as blue chip guys go?

I like the depth of this draft. I've seen to many blue chip players bust to care about blue chips.

If there was a great tackle in this draft I would take him at 11 if available but thus isn't a great year for O line. Therefore I hope they can get a big interior D linman to plug the gaps and apply some pressue up the middle. That will keep the QB from stepping upand maybe running through those gaps. We've seen how good D lineman can impact the game. Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter are both big, strong and agile. Aaron Donald was a one man wrecking crew with the Rams. With the resurgence of the running game interior D ine has taken a new priority. Edge rushers can benefit more from interior pressure than they can from another edge rusher on the opposite side. If the middle is weak the QB can still step up.

Outside of Graham there might not be a DT worth taking at #11. There's depth to the class but it's not particularly top heavy.

And the whole "it's not a great year for OL" talking point is way overblown. There's no Joe Alt in this draft class but the 49ers wouldn't be in position to draft him anyways. There are several linemen that would have gone in the first round last year and the depth overall isn't bad.

That's not what the scouting reports have been saying. Evey O lineman has issues. Not big enough. Too slow. Good run block but can't pass block. Whatever. The same could be said for some of the D lineman as well so it really come down to best player at either postion when they pick. They need both so it doesn't matter as long as they hit on this selection.

I would love either Membou or Conerly in the first.

Here's a question… how would you guys stack the OT class the last 2 years in order of grade, fit and preference for our system with last year and this year's class? Here's mine.
Alt (pick 5)
Fashanu (11)
Fuaga (14)
Latham (7)
Conerly
Membou
Mims (18)
Fautanu (20)
Simmons-due to injury
Guyton (29)
Morgan (25)
