It would suck to take an Oline at 11 when our D is like running through a wet paper bag.
Shanahan has shown he can call an offense and have success with average guys.
Jaylon Moore - 271 snaps at LT
Nick Zakelj- 172 snaps at LG
Spencer Burford- 113 snaps at LG
Charlie Heck started a game at LT and had 87 snaps
Ben Bartch started a game at LG and had 65 snaps
Austen Pleasants had 67 snaps
As for McKivitz. We are getting league average play at RT for 6 million dollars. That is great value.
If anything we must improve at center over Brendel. He was terrible.
"Center is especially vital in Shanahan's system since it's tasked with identifying safety rotations, setting protections, and executing difficult reach blocks that are indispensable to the outside-zone rushing attack"
-Drew Dalman would be a fantastic signing.
-Use 43 on a guard who can play tackle if Trent Williams misses time. My favorite is Donovan Jackson followed by Jonah Savaiinaea. If Williams misses time they can start at LT.
Then look to add a tackle in the 3rd. Chase Lundt is my top guy. He would be ideal as a swing tackle and a nice successor at RT if we don't resign McKivitz next year. He reminds me of a more athletic Spencer Brown from the Bills who was also a 3rd round pick.
Re-Sign Bartch as a backup guard to compete with Burford. Cut Brendel. Let Jaylon Moore and Aaron Banks leave. Re-sign ERFA Austen Pleasants and Charlie Heck for practice roster depth
LT- Trent Williams
LG- Donovan Jackson
C- Drew Dalman
RG- Dominick Puni
RT- Colton McKivitz / Chase Lundt
*Spencer Burford and Ben Bartch compete for the backup OG position.
*Matt Hennessy and Nick Zakelj compete for backup C and OG spot
Practice squad competition:
OL Austen Pleasants
OL Charlie Heck
OL Sebastian Gutierrez
OL Zack Johnson
OL Drake Nugent
OT Isaac Alarcon
OT Jalen McKenzie
Great OL if this happens. Donovan Jackson is my #1 OL. Only difference is I'm hoping for Andrew Mukuba with the 3rd rd pick. Who do you have going in the 1st round?
A lot depends on free agency. I'm hoping we sign an edge and DT. Azeez Olujari and Milton Williams would be fantastic signings .
If we do sign a starting DT and DE then some combination of DT, S, OG and OT in the first 3 rounds. (Mason Graham is my #1 but I don't think he will be available)
I want that OL like Belton or Jackson to be able to play LT in-case Williams misses time and Lundt is the ideal swing tackle for us and a potential starting RT in a year if we don't re-sign McKivitiz who is in the last year of his deal.
1.11- Kenneth Grant, DT- Michigan
2.43- Xavier Watts, FS- ND
3.75- Anthony Belton, LG- NC State
3.99- Chase Lundt, OT- UConn
Or:
1.11- Malachi Starks, FS- Georgia
2.43- TJ Sanders, DT- South Carolina
3.75- Anthony Belton, OL- NC State
3.99- Chase Lundt, OT- UConn
Or:
1.11- Walter Nolen, DT- Ole Miss
2.43- Donovan Jackson, OG- OSU
3.75- Billy Bowman, FS- Oklahoma
3.99- Chase Lundt, OT- UConn
Then look to find a LB, TE and maybe another edge in round 4.
