The thing is that he's explosive, so I wonder if it's just because he's popping up to look where the play is going. If it's on him that's not great, but if he's coached to do it then it's fine. It does sometimes seem that his role is to occupy blockers and free up Graham, but that could just be Graham being better than him.

these were some of the concerns from Jon Ledyard, who's analyst I value regarding defensive lineman.

•Consistently late off the ball. Has to speed up his first step and initial hands to avoid getting reached and losing gap integrity against zone schemes

• Upright mover with a narrow base and some real stiffness as a pass rusher. Lots of surface area for chips/help to make their mark in pass protection

• IDing block combinations is still a significant work in progress. Often a beat late deciphering block releases and can get knocked off balance or sealed off, negating his physical tools.

• Can lean face first into blocks when defending the run, sacrificing his awareness and balance.

I can't disagree, but I also think Kocurek can work with that. "Kid, stop reacting and GTFO". I'm still going to do some more, but I am cooling a bit at #11.
I just started watching him closely, but I did see him a lot watching Graham's tape. He's good enough to play any technique on the dline aside from edge of course...but imo 0 or 1tech would be his best position to maximize his strength.
think he might slip, maybe 2nd to mid 2nd, simply because of the depth of NTs in the draft...
and because of that same reason, I wouldn't take him in the 1st
Big guys like him who can move are hard to find.
If we somehow get lucky enough to land Mason Graham at 11, I hope Lynch does everything in his power to also move up and draft Grant to keep them together. I doubt either falls, but crazier things have happened, so who knows. Saleh would get a tremendous jump on building an elite defense if this happened on draft night.

We'd probably have to jump up to #7 to get Graham if he fell there let alone getting Grant think his value has moved up to the mid 20s if not more. Would be cool almost like having Armstead & Buckner from Oregon they played really well together

Even though they are completely different I see Graham as a Buckner and Grant as Armstead as far as potential

I would be fine with the 49ers trading down and adding an extra few picks and drafting Grant.
Great 49ers gift ideas

I mean that doesn't come off as an elite level athlete like we thought he would be.

I like him much more in round 2

I've seen flashes on tape and must admit I was expecting something in the 9's. If he fell to the 2nd I'd be very interested, there's definitely some untapped potential in there.
dayamn. That's a big ass dude getting skinny and hauling ass.
