Malaki Starks-S-Georgia

Since its clear that this team has a bunch of in the box safeties and no one that can really play single high coverage. Starks is an all-everything safety that can be moved around all over the defense and has the athleticism and skillset to play a more traditional free safety position. Georgia played him all over their defense including a ton of nickel corner this season.

He's been considered a top prospect for so long that it feels like people are really starting to nitpick and get overly critical of his weaknesses which are few overall. If there's no obvious top OL or DL prospect staring the 49ers in the face at #11 then Starks would be a great option as someone that could transform the back end of the defense.

This guy's a player and could be just the FS this team needs on the backend to pair with Mustapha. Not sure how fast he is but his playing speed looks fast in covering a lot of ground. Will he be there at #11 though?
I agree we don't want to make the same mistake as we did in 2018. There was a consensus that Minkah Fitzpatrick was rated higher than Mike McGlinchey, but we went with the need instead of the better talent.
As much as I want to address the D and O line we have to get an impact player at #11.
I agree with your assessment that Starks would be a great fit as a free safety to pair with our cadre of box safeties. @Phoenix49ers, I am curious how Starks compares with Mukuba as a free safety / single high safety in your mind.
Don't want.

9moons Ironman nick names will make me hate this kid

If Campbell, Banks, and Graham are gone I would be fine with either a trade down or taking an impact player like Starks. But I am hoping to get a stud lineman.

I was pounding the table for Minkah in that draft. Then the guy who created this thread did this for Mcglinchey

I remember who I was pounding the table for that draft.
People complain about ignoring OL when this brain trust highest DB pick has been 64. I'd be shocked to see a DB in the first.

I think Starks is clearly better.
I would put Mukuba and Xavier Watts close who could possibly be there with our second pick
if we wanted to go in that direction.

At pick 11 I want BPA and this kid is a top player in this draft IMO. I don't want Mcglinchey 2.0 where we reach for position when there are clearly better players available. That's just me; I know others feel differently and that's fine
been digging into this guy and I'm impressed. He played all over the field, nickel, even linebacker, he looks elite.

Wouldn't argue that point at all
