Chase Lundt-OT-UConn

Lundt fits the mold of what Shanahan looks for in a tackle better than most in this draft class. He's tall at 6'8", mobile with great ability to get out and run block to the second level. He has a lot of the same strengths and negatives as McGlinchey although he's probably a scooch more athletic overall.

He's experienced enough that there's the potential of him starting as a rookie as a replacement for McKivitz. He will very likely be limited to the right side of the line. He's headed to the Senior Bowl so there will be an opportunity to see him against some upper level competition although he did fare well against Tennessee and James Pierce earlier in the year. He's looking like a mid 3rd to mid 4th rounder but a strong offseason showing could obviously move him up.

If it is OL I will take it.
Good find Phoenix; I gotta watch more now. How is he in pass sets? Can't wait to see how he does at the Senior Bowl.
Looks like a Niners lineman for certain. Question for me is whether this kid is strong enough and stout enough to make it in the NFL as an OT. Are there any 6'8" guards in the NFL?

He profiles pretty similar to McGlinchey, fits that mold of tall tackle that can get out on the move and run block his ass off that Kyle seems to like. I think he handles speedier rushers better than McGlinchey did but the strengths and weaknesses otherwise are mostly the same. He's an RT so if they want to bring in someone to specifically move off of McKivitz, he's the guy.

I know that people will hear the comparison and roll their eyes but you're not taking Lundt in the 1st but the 3rd or 4th round. At that point, a solid starting RT is tremendous value.
I never did get the McGlinchey hate. Dude was solid for us

You should get more than "solid" from a #9 overall OT. That's where it stemmed from. Dude was garbage in pass protection and got bullied from anyone in front of him; including DBs

On third and longer than 6 yards the dude was gonna be in Jimmys lap like a stripper at the rhino in no time flat.

Well said. Lundt seems to fit the role better at RT than guys like Membou or Banks who has been projected to the Niners early. I'm really interested in how all these prospects perform at the Senior Bowl and other all star games. Looks like the OT draft class is deep enough and talented enough for the the Niners to finally fix the OL now and long term.

He could definitely take McKivitz' job by no later than yesterday with potential to be on McGlinch level by midseason
Reminds me more of Spencer Brown as a prospect, who I really wanted to draft, and then again wanted to get before BUF extended him. Spencer Brown worked a lot with Joe Staley when prepping for the draft and really improved his technique, and now he's further developed into one of the best RT in the league IMO. Id he quiet happy with Lundt. Especially if we can double up with him and Belton in the 3rd.
