MM on Rod and Brooks right now just said that he was told Battle didn't run the route correctly on the JTO Interception. He said this is a case of him not practicing due to injury.

He said Bruce was the initial target on presnap reads but the Cardinals changed the defense and JTO changed his read, correct read, to Battle but the route was not run correct.

Hey, I'm not the one who made this excuse, this was said to MM from the 49ers.

Who's making excuses? We said he needs to protect the ball better but he threw the ball well but he needs to show that he can improve from game to game.

That's not excuses, that's just not judging a player by 1 game.

Let's see, this should not be too difficult:

We can debate that issue, but I'm sure if it was Alex Smith, most would be complaining about his pocket presence.

Oh wait, there is an Alex reference in the same post:

Even Alex has fumbled 27 times in 30 starts, so don't think he is so great at holding onto the ball.

He didn't look lost. That alone is an improvement in the QB play. On top of that, he helped the offense move the ball.

He will be fine as EVERYTHING went bad this game and in a game like this, our running game and our passing game and our defense still looked solid.
Well if you're going to use that line of thinking, you should disregard 14 of Alex's career interceptions since EVERYTHING went bad in his first season (11 picks) and EVERYTHING went bad after he got hurt last season and was forced to come back early (3 picks)

I even got one not from another poster:

Other then the unacceptable turnovers, JTO looked pretty good. 70% completion percentage (6th in the NFL for week 1) and 9.8 yards/completion (5th in the NFL). And think how many times we started with crappy field position (within our own 10 3 times)

I attribute the int and Fumble to inexperience that, in my opinion, will get better as the season goes on...

I'm with Joe on this.

Your reading too much into what I posted and ignoring some of the words on your screen. My quote started out with "Other then the unacceptable turnovers" and I even have in there that it is my "opinion" that it is inexperience. Do you know what unacceptable and opinion mean?

Neither of these are excuses they are stating there is a problem and I provide my opinion on the problem. Thats all

He shouldn't have thrown the ball. He should have ran for 5 and the first down. It is his fault. If it was Alex you'd be calling for his head but since it is JT we can just say "besides all the turnovers that cost us the game he is great."

If MM said that and Alex was playing, I would not blame him. I am very rationale if it is deserved. I gave a lot of props to Alex Smith after game 1 last year but I was still concerned about the lack of efficiency on offense last year. This year, I'm criticizing JTO and his fumbles but his throwing ability proved to be at a pretty high level.

It's better than yelling "Throw it" during the entire games last year or the year before.

I was yelling Run also; but you know what they say... Hindsight is always 20/20.

And the what if game; come on now. What if he completed the pass and Battle took off for a TD. Would you still be saying Run? I know I wouldn't have cared that he didn't run.

(BTW Alex would have been sacked by then...)

1 game down and a disappointing outcome. On to Seattle. It isn't likely the Niners will repeat the turnovers of the Cardinals game.
JTO can put his first start behind him and forget about it. Just learn from the mistakes that were made.
And this whole Pro JTO Thread or Pro Alex, How about PRO back the guy who is in there.

Alex wouldn't have even been able to decipher the fact that the defense adjusted to cover the primary option on that play.
JTO made some nice throws there, that first one to Johnson was very nice, I was impressed with the placement of the ball. With that said, I'm still skeptical because he didn't show pocket presence, by that I mean he didn't feel the pressure that created his fumbles.

I hope that he can get this behind him so we get a chance to win, but things as of now don't look good.

That is the ONLY concern right now. Not bad.
What worries me is whether or not O'Sullivan saw Adrian Wilson. Wilson didn't exactly come from out of nowhere to make the pick, he was just in position in a zone the entire time to jump any in-routes.
