article on Arizona's new D under Davis

I have high hopes that Davis will make their D even worse than it was last year. There are some quotes in there that make feel like he's going to try and emulate Nolan's D.

"We've put a heavy, heavy focus on the little things, he said, "the details, with each player understanding what his job is, why that's his job, why that's his stance, why his eyes have to be where they have to be. They have to know the little things.

There could be as few as two defensive linemen in the game, or there could be five

didnt billy davis get fired from green bay as well?
I hope they play the Big Nickel package against us all game...or better yet, hope they use the Punt formation as their defense all game long.
i just hope he takes all the over complicated BS that he learned from Nolan and has his D thinking way too much and not reacting come 9/13.

"I liked Clancy as a scheme guy but he had a nack for not being aggresive enough when needed with his play calling. Lets hope Davis is better with situational play calling than Pendergast was."

Hahahaha

Good luck with Davis as an improvement in play calling. Wasn't davis removed of that responsibility while in SF?
I dont know,

Nolan may have called the shots during davis's time.

Manusky didnt seem that much better, until nolan was fired and we made the defense simple.

Davis might do better the 2nd time around without nolan

I wonder if Davis wasn't Nolan's scape goat. It is interesting that once Nolan left Mankusky defense all of the sudden got a LOT better.

With Adrian Wilson they could run big nickel with some success. Expect a lot of 8 man in the box against Gore and company.
In fairness to Billy D he was in control of a lousy defense. Keith Lewis and Brandon Moore were the difference makers for us that year.

The personnel he has now is 10x better than what we had here back in 06.

Actually, if you remember back to whatever season Davis was with us, the D sucked until Nolan took over the play calling and inserted Brandon Moore and Keith Lewis into the starting lineup.

+1

Nolan was heading our D when we were successful in 06. Nolan's problem was the next year he tried to get too over complicated instead of sticking with what was working.

Davis definitely isn't an upgrade but we might do okay. Guess we'll just have to see.

Yeah he was but I wouldn't put too much weight into that. I think that was more Nolan's wanting to control everything more than anything else because he didn't trust his coaches.

Sean Payton was stripped of his offensive playcalling duties when he was in New York under Fassell and look at his offense now.

I still think he can be successful but I really hope not.
