All they needed was a kicker at that point .
I disagree Zig.
If he was smart he would have traded down several times than get the kicker he wanted. If I recall he was projected to be taken in the 6th, Along with Neil Rackers and Paul Edinger (which is where they were picked).
he could have drafted Chad Pennington as the replacement to Rich Gannon, who wasnt very young at the time, or drafted Shaun Alexander because really Napoleon Kaufman, or like Will said trade back because Janakowski wasnt gonna go in the first round if the Raiders didnt pick him
BPA regardless of position at that point. You keep the cupboards stocked at that point.
And Tyrone Wheatley was the starting HB that year (2000), he put up over 1000 yards on the ground then never surpassed 600 yards. After that they brought in Charlie Garner and he wasn't really the answer. So yes Valrod the pick should have been Alexander, Pennington or Marvel Smith. Unfortunately for Alexander IIRC he didn't have a great timed 40 so that immediately removes his from Al's big board.
Jerry Rice came in the year after BTW (2001).
