How the hell did a kicker win the MVP in 1982

Strike year. Everything was f**ked up.

Didn't know a kicker ever won a MVP. WTF?!?

All I ever believed in about the NFL has now been smashed into oblivion. I don't know if I can live with this along with the horrible Giants loss tonight. I will now dwell on my existence and hopefully learn more about myself before coming to a conclusion which may cause harm to everyone around me, and most likely will have to follow the path of righteous indignation straight into the lowly depths of hell where the thread title has lead.

Even then. How can a kicker win that award? Unless he was booting 70 yard FGs with accuracy every game - he shouldn't be considered for an MVP award.

A kicker? The guy is on the field for few minutes each game.

Most of the guys that were playing the games were absolute hacks. Not even XFL worthy, IIRC. He probably led the league in scoring and overall was an easy pick compared to the measly stats left up by everybody else.

Wes Chandler's stats in 8 games that year:

49 catches
1,032 yards
9 TDs

Again, how the f**k did a kicker win????

That was the strike shortened season. They only played 9 games. Mark Moseley was probably the best scorer on a short list of players that actually did something worth noting that year.

That was a BAD year.
