Bryan Smith, a defensive end out of McNeese State drafted in the third round by the Eagles in 2008 has been released according to a tweet by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Smith, a 6-2, 245-pounder, was beaten out at the position by Jason Babin who had an excellent preseason campaign.

Smith didn't have ideal size to play end in a 4-3 defense. The Eagles were said to be looking to cut a deal with another team before releasing him and getting zippo in return. But aren't they all?

I would love for us to take a look at Smith. Philly has a a lot of talent and depth at DE. This might be more of a numbers game , rather then him not being able to play.

yea and at 6'8" hes more of a de in the 34 anyway.
Surprised that the Pack already gave up on Brian Brohm.
Our first option right now should be Tony Pashos. He may be looking for a starting job though. Singletary has already given the starting job to Snyder.
So how does this process normally go? Now that every team is down to 53, how long is it until practice squads are created? Do you automatically release someone when you go after another player? If we go for the T from the Jaguars, we sign him and release someone?

Tony Pashos would be one of the most sought after free agents. Lots of teams could use another OT.

Getting him would be easier said than done.

I believe we are at 51 not 53

If we are under 53 we can add 2 players either via waiver claims (should we be awarded the player) or singing a FA.

Players with 4 years or less have to clear waivers the rest are automatically FA's and are free to sign immediately.
There are two OT's from New England who I wouldn't mind picking up and they are Wesley Britt and Ryan O'Callaghan. Both of these guys have started several games and played well. Both are better than sims and Snyder.

I believe they have started about 10 games between them both

And what does that mean? Its about how they looked during those starts which matters. During those starts they looked better than what the 49ers have now. That to me is an upgrade.
