He was caught early in the 2006 season. He had 12.5 sacks in 2007 with defenses still accounting heavily for him. This guy could be had for a bargain, esp. as he's coming off of serious knee surgery, which often takes over a year to recover from. I definitely think that if we can trade Haralson and a early-mid round draft pick we should pull the trigger.
ring the bell Marvin......ding ding ding.....

I dont think it would take a first rounder. I think we could get him for a second in the 2010 draft and possibly an incentive pick in 2011 based on playing time stats etc. With the way trades are popping off in the NFL these days there really is no set standard for a previously injured player, this said, we should jump on the ball the man is a beast and i for one think he has the intangibles to be a hall of famer. Just my two cents say what you will {homer} whatever.
I wouldn't trade for him this year. Not when we could sign him in FA after the season AND keep all of our draft picks.

We would basically be giving up a draft pick just to have Shawne on the field this year when he's yet to prove he's the same player after the knee & steroid issues. Of course it would also ensure we'd get him (instead of letting him hit the open FA market), but its still not worth it to me.
I'd take him, preferably not for a first rounder if possible. He's unhappy in San Diego, so maybe he just needs a change of scenery to get going again. Even if he isn't as good as he used to, I still think he's better than what we currently have.

we have other needs! ahmad brooks is finally stepping up! the front line and linebackers are playing excellent before the atlanta game! plus we have other NEEDS of improvement!

Of course we have other needs, but you don't get to choose whats available.

IMO the 49ers biggest needs are RT, OG, and Pass Rushing OLB. I don't see many RT or OG available.

QB is easily a bigger need then ANY of those positions, if only because of how hard it is to get that franchise guy. I don't think THAT guy is on our roster, and until he is, he is #1 priority imo. You don't win year in and year out with game managers behind center.

Behind what center? or guards and RT for that matter. A franchise QB isn't worth anything on his back
I wouldn't trade more than a 3rd. At this point, he still has durability concerns and he's not even a 3 down player.

I think it will be better to sign him in the offseason. What if he is not willing to sign long term?

1) He has not played the same since tearing 2 knee ligaments.

2) The Chargers will want a kings ransom for him if he goes anywhere else.

3) He's made a huge # of questionable off the field moves lately and is becomming a real head case.

How is this Niner Talk? You're just speculating out of the sky right? Is there some confirmed trade rumor between the 49ers and Chargers?

Of course its Niner talk...it doesn't need to be a confirmed rumor to talk about it. I don't need to hear the Niners are interested in Colt McCoy to think about the possibilities.

I could understand if there were no rumors whatsoever about Merriman being on the block, but thats not the case.

That sounds more like NFL TALK. There are no confirmed connections to the 49ers at this point. Just your speculation.

He hasn't recovered from his injury. He may or may not in time. It takes 2 - 3 years to recover from his injury.
