What happened to Eric Johnson?

I am not asking as far as the Niners, obviously he is of no interest to us, I was just wondering what happened after he went to the Saints? How did he seem so good here (in relative terms) to not being in the league? I find it hard to believe he is not good enough to be at least a back up somewhere.
I think he got hurt while playing for the Saints, got cut, and didn't make another roster...pretty weird, the guy was a good pass catcher, and a decent blocker.

He was always hurt though.

I was wondering the same thing last night. He was a WR converted to a TE. I just don't think he had the body to handle that change.
he fell off
He never really came back from the injury he had when he was with us. Sucks because he was a good pass catching TE.

yea, he reminded me of Brent Jones a bit, and not because they were both white.

He wasn't as good as many people remember. He had some good seasons with up but look at the talent we had on the roster. Decent talent looks much better on terrible teams. Just my opinion.
we made the biggest mistake ever by dropping him

Brandon Lloyd is a perfect example of that.

i remember him quite well. that guy was money on third time each time. he'd always habe that knack to find that space in the zone and sit there and make the catch almost every time

Actually he was never much of a blocker, and was a very overrated receiver too. The hype around him was that he was good, but that was it - hype. He had zero RAC ability, and he dropped more balls than TO! I remember watching a game where he had 4 or 5 drops, it was pathetic - but there was John Madden rambling on about how great his hands were??? I don't think he was even watching the game, just reading his cue cards. I was glad to see him go! Eric Johnson - and John Madden!

Why would you even post something like this?

The truth is; he was a WR in college and worked hard on his blocking with the 49ers, and became a decent, not great blocking TE.

TEs are not supposed to get RAC but Johnson did have some decent games.

As to him having "4 or 5 drops" in a single game=

I was a season-ticket holder the entire time he was with the 49ers, and I never saw the player you describe.
he didnt play for a team in which he was the best pass catcher anymore.
