As Bill Walsh once said tho...better to let a guy go too early than too late...and getting a pick to boot? No brainer.
What was Vernon going to do this year that made it worth keeping him? They aren't going to the playoffs. He's gone after the year anyway. Getting something in return is what you HAVE to do.
Walsh usually had a next man up to fill the exiting player's shoes.
garrett celek and bell. but it doesnt matter, this season is done. might as well get some picks for a player that was going to be here.
Celek had less than 150 yards receiving in college, Bell had 250.

Muhammad Wilkerson-DE, Alex Mack-C, Andre Smith-RT, Bruce Irvin.....etc, its actually a pretty decent FA class and none of those guys are expected to be or can be franchised. Signing Wilkerson would be huge, he's a young dominant DE that you could put with Williams and Armstead for a top notch young DL.

Oh no...do we not have a TE who can't catch or run routes? Oh wait, we have Vance McDonald for that.
Can Vance McDonald lead the NFL in TD receptions?

FINALLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
FOOTBALL GODS HAVE HEARD ME!!
Been waiting for this for a long time now.. .almost 2 years!!
Damnnn!! I wish him all the luck!! Vernon should be a better player in Denver if he can get on the same page with Manning..
He's got no more excuses in Denver.. and there's no way but UP for him so he should be happy.
as for us, the HOUSE CLEANING starts!! i expect more to happen if this management is to be kept.. make it happen now, not later, NOW!!
REID & Ward - send the two to San Diego or Jagz for their 2016 (2nd rounder)
KAEPERDINK - if Detroit is done with Matthews, I'll take him for Kaepernick!! if not, then I still say we trade him for RG3..
Staley and Boldin - Do Patriots a favor and give them a fair chance to keep Brady healthy so that they can compete for the Super Bowl (2016 - 2nd and 5th)
Brooks and Boone - These Killer Bs wont be happy here any longer, so I say we send them to Pittsburgh where they are needed most (2016 - 2nd and 5th)

Good luck VD.
I will remember the good
-the optimism from drafting a 4.38 TE from MD.
-the 31 yard TD vs AZ in his first game
-the multi TD game Down the seam under Martz like we were actually going to utilize the skillset going forward
-the early shower from Samurai that gave us a sound byte for the ages
-The Catch III along with the first TD of the game, standing on the camera platform
-The divot TD catch in the divisional game in Carolina
-The thread on the Eagle fan page in honor of the entire package that is....Vernon Davis

At this rate we're going to have 150 million dollars worth of cap space since not a single person in the organization seems to want to be here.
