You have a 10 year vet TE with declining physical skills and hasn't produced in 2 years. He was going to be a 49er for 8 more games. That's it.

"Equal Talent!?!" What on earth are you talking about? OF COURSE they won't get equal talent. He's only under contract for the rest of the year.

Put another way, what does Vernon give us this year? They aren't going to the playoffs. At seasons end, he's gone. For nothing.

Baalke got a pick for something that in the bigger scheme costs them nothing. They got something for a resource that didn't and would never help them again.

That's called smart.

Seems like valid points you made, even with your unnecessarily strong tone.

Looking at it from the other side, elway just got a great player for a 2017 6th round pick? From that angle, I think we could have got more than we did for VD. I'm probably not as smart as you though

I know my Denver buddies are laughing their tails off right now.

VD probably been on the block since the off season. The fact we got so little for him speaks to his level of play since the start of 2014 and the fact he is an unrestricted FA at years end.

EDIT: whether or not we should have traded him is not my issue, but you knew that. What we got for him is laughable.... Like giving a sports car away because you didn't know how to drive it

If they think Vernon Davis is still a great player, they haven't paid attention. The first time they're losing, and they need to score, and he drops a ball, they're going to lose it.

The first time they need a first down and he dances to get around a small DB, instead of lowering his shoulder, they're going to pull their hair out.

This is the type of move where he will go to Denver, probably have a game or two that flashes what he used to be, and then he will be a free agent in the offseason, and end up on another non-contender.

Which is still better than nothing. He was leaving regardless, might as well get something for him. What were you expecting, a 4th round pick? He's 31 and on the downside of his career. This team ain't going anywhere, better for him that he gets a chance to win.
Denver paying Duke's salary is not irrelevant either. Remember, unused cap space can be rolled over into the ensuing year. So in addition to the draft picks, there is a little extra financial wiggle room next year as well. I'm not saying I think this is a great deal, but take that into consideration as well.

I'm not saying it was either, but it's probably the best we could get. Elway desperately wants to get that ring this year, so he has no problems giving up a couple of late picks.
Who doesn't have it better than us?
Happy he's gone never liked that we picked him ...
What are the salary cap imprecations of the trade... AB, where are you? I'm betting we will be well under the cap with deal, and the retirements, hope we can turn that cap space into a new offensive line to block for whatever QB we pick with the first pick in the draft!
Man, if we fire this whole staff, we could rebound fast!
you see,

this is why I call Baalke a MORON!!

he's got no future plan!!

he wouldn't trade Davis during the off-season, where we coulda gotten a 3rd round for him because of his value... and he chose to ride this guy to see how well he's gonna perform, and yet, he didn't have any plans if we were going to re-sign him for the "millions" he'd be askin for..

so now that Vernon didn't do crap this year, Baalke had no choice to accept a 2017 - 6th rounder???

and watch him use that pick (2017 - pick obtained from Denver, now select, Taylor McNamara.. TE - USC)

8 playoff games, 600 yards and 7 TD. Dude was a monster.
Good, Bye, Glad, GONE !

'cause Life has shown Time-and-Again, that Everything on this Planet, has a "Shelf Life".
VD' (IMO), expired several years ago. If the Bronco's make it to the Superb Owl 50 ... and just
happen to win it all, then good for Vernon. However, the 49er Fan in me, was BEYOND
Tired of him, and the way he played (was playing) for the team.

Opponents had to plan around him. Glad you don't draft for the Niners.

50-55+ mil in cap space for 2016 I think.

Lol, a 3rd rounder.... MAYBE, maybe in 2011, maybe.
When they said something big was coming, I was hoping it would be something that would help the team. Looks like this only helps the ower's pockets.
