Do it. Teach him a lesson.

I'll always remember this
I hope he beats the s**t out of the Seapukes in the super bowl at Levi's with Denver. Wouldn't that be SWEET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

VD was soft. He never dove for a pass once. He never went up to contend for a ball. He ran bad routes, and had hands of stone.
He relied purely on his speed and athletisizm. Now that hes older, and those things are diminishing, hes finished.
The fact that we got anything is a plus.
Overall he had a nice Niner career, but hes been gone for 2 years now. Hes just not on the roster anymore this time.

Unless someone could explain how this is beneficial to us, I feel like baalke got bullied into trading him for nothing based on our mismanagement on offense, instead of his potential, knowing damn well he's going to see a big spike in performance in denvers scheme
Can we legitimately get VDs equal in talent for what we traded him for? Nope
He puts out little to no effort every week that he can actually get on the field. He was leaving in Free Agency at the end of the year. We got something instead of nothing for him. It's not like he was helping us at all this year.
VD is terrible. A shadow of his former self is an understatement.
While I have ZERO confidence in Baalke to do something useful with a 6th round pick.. at least we got something back for Vernon and that's shocking.

You have a 10 year vet TE with declining physical skills and hasn't produced in 2 years. He was going to be a 49er for 8 more games. That's it.
"Equal Talent!?!" What on earth are you talking about? OF COURSE they won't get equal talent. He's only under contract for the rest of the year.
Put another way, what does Vernon give us this year? They aren't going to the playoffs. At seasons end, he's gone. For nothing.
Baalke got a pick for something that in the bigger scheme costs them nothing. They got something for a resource that didn't and would never help them again.
That's called smart.
Seems like valid points you made, even with your unnecessarily strong tone.
Looking at it from the other side, elway just got a great player for a 2017 6th round pick? From that angle, I think we could have got more than we did for VD. I'm probably not as smart as you though
I know my Denver buddies are laughing their tails off right now.
EDIT: whether or not we should have traded him is not my issue, but you knew that. What we got for him is laughable.... Like giving a sports car away because you didn't know how to drive it

Don't take the strong tone personally...just frustrated by people who don't see the big picture. Not aimed at you personally.
Difference between us isn't smarts...its just experience watching this stuff play out.
What we got for him is NORMAL. Anquan Boldin was AQUIRED by the 49ers two years go for...wait for it...a 6th round pick. You can't separate the skill level of the player from the situation surrounding the trade. They are connected.
