yep.

He broke like 2-3 tackles and rumbled down the sideline. I remember jumping up and down in my front room in front of my 5 year old son screaming like a mad man.

Such an awesome prospect coming into the league, he was what no other TE had been.

It was fast and total in the nature of the tear down.

February of 2013 we were in the SB. That's just 2.5 years ago....it's all unbelievable.

I'm telling you now and before...Its all 100% Trent Baalke's FAULT. He wrecked 4 straight DRAFTS! 4 Straight and not one impact player????

I'm gonna say the following events all have more of an impact on the downfall than the last 4 drafts (2 of which still cant properly be evaluated):

-fall from grace of sack a game LB
-devastating knee injury to best defensive player
-wear and tear on best DL and evental retirement
-unexpected retirement of all pro tackle
-unexpected retirement of a LB that played at a ROY level
-injury and eventual retirement of you defensive leader at 29-30 years old

The biggest thing IMO, is the piss poor way the whole harbaugh situation was handled on both ends. More damning was the poor selection of the successor.

Outside of throwing together a couple of 1986 Bill Walsh drafts any organization is gonna have a tough time soldiering through the events we had the last couple of years. Now, I've said numerous time Trent is not perfect but he is also not the piece of s**t he's made out to be. It's all way too premature to grade the '14 and '15 drafts.

Yeah, reality set in that our coaching staff still sucked and that we only had a couple of star players, Davis and Gore

This really needs to be an appreciation thread. The dude is the greatest TE in 49ers history. And it's not even close.

Thank you for everything, Vernon.

not sure about greatest but top two, yes. we should not judge him on the last year and a half,, you want to be mad,, think of all the wasted f**king years with sing and nolan when gore, willis, vernon were at the TOP of their game and we pissed it all away .3 great cornerstones .... THATS the time frame we really should be mad at in my opinion.

I would say he is the greatest TE in 49ers history. What he did in the playoffs for us was amazing. Not to mention he leads all receiving categories for a TE in niner history. I know the last two years he was a dud, but I think he will offer Denver something. Good luck to him.

Brent jones?

Brent Jones is my personal favorite TD...but VD has him beat in all the major categories in about the same amount of games and didn't have the QBs jones had throwing him the ball.

Agreed. Jones never dominated the way Davis did.

I can't even begin to remember how many times I watched this video. Never been more excited for a draft pick (.... other than Alex Smith).

Yup, pretty much sums him up. A physical specimen but to stupid to realize he should've gone out of bounds and save a timeout.

Reminds me of a certain starting QB
In essence we just got a 6th rounder for VD?

We could have potential gotten a higher comp draft pick in 2018. Had he just signed with another team during the off-season.
Best of luck, Vernon!

So you're assuming that with 50+ mil in cap space that the 49ers won't be signing anyone or what.

I wouldn't count on any comp picks coming from the next FA.

Someone doesn't know how comp picks work? You only get them if you lose more FA's then sign. If the 49ers don't try to sign players this offseason with their cap space, there are bigger problems with the team than "only" getting a 6th round pick for a guy who was not going to be resigned and has lost 10 steps.

Response about ownership being "cheap" while ignoring the salary cap doesn't even come out of their pocket in 3, 2, 1.......

Yup. Except a TE can get away with being stupid.
