I'm glad he's going home to DC. Good for him.

It was said Vernon missed significant time a few years ago with a back injury, as some who unfortunately knows the effects first hand I believe that is what has led to Vernon's decline. Unless the injury is minor it will cause a slow to rapid decline in muscle reflex, strength and there will be increasing instances of pain whether short and stabbing or long and dull. No doctor wants to operate on a spinal cord unless necessary so surgery is a last resort and isn't done until the physical decline is pretty drastic or the pain unbearable. As he declined he just looked to me as a person trying to play with a bad back and the long term fall out from it. No amount of being tough will over come issues of muscles that don't cooperate because of nerve damage.

I would think he'd be motivated going back to his home town. It's hard for me to believe he's not still very fast for a TE even if he's lost a step or two.
Of course, he's got to catch the ball...
