A source close to former St.Louis Rams coach Mike Martz, most recently the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator last season, said the architect of The Greatest Show on Turf might finally be headed to Chicago.
''Martz would love to work with Jay Cutler,'' said the source, who cited the close relationship between Smith and Martz in sharing the information.
Smith is expected to stay with the Bears in 2010 because of more than $10 million in walking-away money.
But offensive coordinator Ron Turner and at least part of his staff could be another story.

That's the kind of offense Cutler should be in.

Does Ron Turner run a similar offense to his brother's Norv? If so, if he get's fired should we bring him on as an offensive assistant?

This move seems so anti Bears like. I wonder where else have I seen a franchise completely throw away its past and change its fundamental philosophies? Oh, wait...

makes sense with Smith having coached under martz... the guy is not terrible, he got two 4,000 yd seasons out of Kitna, a 300 yd passing game out of O'Sullivan... Much like Nolan did, I bet Smith hires Martz to save his job. I'm for it

He also got 42 interceptions and 27 fumbles in two seasons with Kitna.
For the Bears, it's not an issue of throwing more or the scheme, it's the lacking of quality receivers available to catch footballs.

If Lovie Smith retains the HC gig, this would be the nail in the coffin for him as it was with Mike Nolan.
- What happens to Matt Forte? (Frank Gore)
- What happens to Greg Olsen? (Vernon Davis)
- What happens to their O-line? (49ers O-line)
- Are their WRs effective in this scheme? (Battle? Morgan? Hill?)

Yes, Ron's offensive philosophy is also based on elements of the Air Coryell system. There are some tweaks and differences. Hell his system made brandon lloyd look good at Illinois.

Agreed above, Lovie Smith must be getting desperate if he's considering this move.
Martz's offense has been figured out for a long time.

Agreed.
With Cutler's propensity for throwing picks it should be an outstanding fit.

I agree but thats the Martz system, risk and reward.. even during Warners last MVP season with the Rams he had 22 picks. The Bears just need to draft some wideouts, they really can't trade for anyone..
