You so-called fans don't know who Jesse Sapolu was?

Being someone that doesnt live in America, therefore outside looking in and only being in nappies when the 9ers selected Sapolu, no I didnt know much about him.

In New Zealand during the 80s and 90s, the only time one would hear about gridiron was in the newspaper. It pointed out what teams played in the super bowl, the score line and MVP, that was its only exposure till the next super bowl. It did grow from there on with the rise of the internet and digital tv.

Instead of telling me what I already knows and thats lack of knowlegue of past great 49er players, why dont you come out and give me your take on Sapolu? that would have gone down better because really the guy is as one poster put it:

This section of the forum should encourage members to ask question about the great 9er past and share that information to new 49er members be it new to the forum or a new fan to the 49ers, so they know where the team has been while on this journey of where its going.

I don't know about all that.

I have never met a smart Samoan.

probably cause you stay in your little room, where it is nice and safe....and you're the toughest guy around.

Actually I am pretty tough, but that has nothing to do with anything.
the best there ever was! lets hope iupati could continue as a great lineman... for all of you who don't know the history of sapolu... he was also drafted as a guard and got moved to center! a probowler for sure!

This guy was rock solid - especially for someone that was drafted in the 11th round (289th pick overall). 1 of 6 49ers that won 4 Super Bowl Rings.

So you remember Keith Fahnhorst and Freddy Q? Opps showing my age. I remember all the way back when Brodie was the man with Kwalick, Wilcox (sp?), then the dam WFL took a lot of our players and we down hill, then came Walsh!

You know your getting old when current 49ers fans don't remember Jesse Sapolu. He started at guard then moved over to center when Randy Cross retired in '89. Maybe the reason many don't remember him very well is because the o-line was so good no names ever came up, as it should be for an offensive lineman. The better they are the less you hear their names, cough, Kwame Harris, cough.

To add, he went to Farrington High School in Hawaii. He is a year older than I am. Their HS and Waianae back in my days were where you would find all the samoans. Back then most of College football didn't know to much about them as players. Now they come to Hawaii in droves to get them for their college programs.

It is always good to have them as friends cause they will always have your back if someone tries to cause you trouble. Although I was small I went out for the team and they admired me for that compared to the others who talk sh@t but don't come out. Whenever they someone try some bs with me, even if I didn't ask and was ready to take on some guys, they come running and wat up brah-haha then you see the others backup real quick and say nothing we just having one debate with him.
Also, some of you fans are fair weather fans, I say this, cause after just one year or two you here about fans say he is sh@% or he is that-cut him-Sapolu is a good example of patience and good coaching-those who thru those years know that he spent the first 2-3 years on injured reserve because of ankle injuries and had to have rods inserted intohis legs. A lot of fans on this board without hind sight would call for his head especially since he was a low draft pick.

That kind of patience does not exist in today's NFL. Rookies have to perform quickly or they are gone. Unless your name is Alex Smith.

Get used to it NinerGM. Keena, f*gan, Haley, Jesse all played quite a while ago now - 20 years or so. I think most of the posters are pretty young. I remember Frank Nunley, Dave Wilcox, John Brodie, Ted Kwalick, all the way back to Billy Wilson and Bruce Bosley, for Christ's sake. You just have a little more history and knowledge than most here. Also, hate to say this, but you're not getting any younger. Don't worry about it though.
Sapolu was one of my favorite 49ers. As a kid I liked him alot because he played college ball in Hawaii, where I'm from, and played for my 49ers. My best memory of him was when he had a cast on his right arm and was playing center. He snapped the ball lefty to Steve Young and never missed a beat.

Jacksonville has 3 Polynesians on their team : Freddy Keiaho, Vince Manuwai, and Tyson Alualu
