Montana made it very clear, through constant chuckling, that he is not a fan of the inspirational movie Rudy. In his interview, he insinuated that Rudy Ruettiger was more of a joke rather than an inspiration ruining it for Dan Patrick and all the Rudy fans. Even when he said something positive about Rudy he tempered his comments, “he [Rudy] worked his butt off to get where he was … but not any harder than anybody else.”
Montana was clear that the fans were not cheering Rudy’s name during the final game as the movie portrayed and no teammate threw in their jersey to let Rudy dress in their place. To add insult to injury, Montana stated that when carrying Rudy off the field after his heroic sack in the final game, “I won’t say it was a joke, but it was playing around.”
According to TMZ, at least one former ND player came to Rudy’s rescue after Montana’s comments. #79 Jay Achterhoff said that Rudy was carried off the field as an acknowledgement for all his hard work and he was disappointed that Montana would say otherwise.
