Here are my reasons why Gabbert makes sense for San Francisco:

1. It's looking like there won't be any free agency, meaning the 49ers can't address the quarterback position by either signing Donovan McNabb or trading for Kevin Kolb. Gabbert could be San Francisco's only viable option.

2. Jim Harbaugh attempted to recruit Gabbert a few years ago. Gabbert played in a spread offense at Missouri, but ran a pro-style attack in high school. In fact, Gabbert initially wanted to go to Nebraska because of Bill Callahan's West Coast scheme.

3. All the analysts on ESPN are gushing over Gabbert. Mike Mayock has him as his No. 1 quarterback. Trent Dilfer referred to Gabbert as "special." Charles Davis called Gabbert a mix between Joe Flacco and Sam Bradford. And Matt Millen went as far as calling Gabbert "1,000-percent USDA Man" on NFL Live.

4. New regimes mean new quarterbacks. John Harbaugh took a quarterback in the first round of his first draft, and Jim may do the same. Gabbert is a smart player with great leadership qualities. He would be a great fit running Harbaugh's offense in San Francisco.

Stanford showed slight interest but Harbaugh zeroed in on some guy named Luck. @Jcool0 did Harbaugh ever try to recruit Gabbert to Stanford?
Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald says that he doesn't think his team will spend the fifth overall pick on a quarterback.

Could Gabbert end up falling to us?

IF he doesn't land with teams 1,3, 4 or IF teams 8,10 or 12 don't trade UP. I've excluded Miami who has no 2nd round pick this year but they remain a possibility....

Well if he falls to 6.. Wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers moved up 1 spot to make sure nobody else jumps them..

Fixed. All we can do is attempt....any other team can be calling Cleveland as well to jump us at that same time...

If Gabbert is on the board at 6, which I doubt, you know the Titans, Redskins, Vikes and Dolphins will be making a phone call. Could you imagine the chaos having to field these offers at the same time?

larry fitz wont have a say and by far the cardinals had the worst qb situation last year f they dont get a qb via FA or trade they WILL draft a qb

also the panthers are really high on newton and the bengals also have to go qb as well

Miami with no 2nd rounder would have to make an interesting offer....

Technically he does...if they want to resign him then finding a long term QB solution is a priority. His deal is up after the 2011 season.

which is why they need a qb in forst round they dont want skelton or anderson throwing to him anymore so i fCBA doesnt get done by draft they will take a qb in first round
I don't know what the scouts/tv analysts are watching... Gabbert looks like a Smith clone. Skiddish in the pocket, runs backwards and out of bounds, inaccurate, and a pretty uninspiring 16TDs to 9 INTs ratio in a spread offense.

Why on earth would any team waste their top 10 draft pick on a guy like that?
