Gabbert to visit with 49ers
Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert is scheduled to visit the 49ers on the final two days that NFL teams are allowed to host draft-eligible players, a league source told CSN Bay Area.
Gabbert has already met with the teams holding the top four picks in the April 28 draft: Carolina, Denver, Buffalo and Cincinnati. The Arizona Cardinals, who hold the No. 5 selection, may also be in the market for a quarterback.
Veteran David Carr is the only quarterback the 49ers have under contract for 2011. The 49ers own the No. 7 overall draft pick.
Coach Jim Harbaugh also attended Gabbert's pro day on March 17. Gabbert (6-4, 233) was a two-year starter at Missouri, where he completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 40 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
Teams are allowed to host a maximum of 30 draft-eligible prospects through Wednesday. The 49ers met last week quarterbacks Andy Dalton (TCU) and Ryan Mallett (Arkansas).

Yeah, we're probably gonna draft Christian Ponder.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock has favorably compared Blaine Gabbert to Sam Bradford and Matt Ryan.
"(Gabbert) reminds me of the guys that have done well the last couple of years," Mayock said. "He reminds me of Bradford. He reminds me of Matt Ryan." Many are dwelling on the fact that Gabbert wasn't as productive in college as you'd expect a top prospect to be, but many players have underwhelmed in college before putting it together in the NFL. Gabbert has the tools, which will be reason enough for any number of teams to look past his underwhelming college production.

One big red flag for scouts was Gabbert’s 18-for-42 performance against Nebraska, which features a pro-style defense with man coverage from the cornerbacks.
“He had a couple of bad games,’’ said NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock. “I think [Nebraska] was just a bad game. But if you put the tape on, you realize the kid didn’t have a second to throw the football. Nebraska’s getting home with three and four defensive linemen. Didn’t even have to blitz. They were killing him.
“So you’ve got to take with a grain of salt some of the poor performances of Gabbert. And I’ve probably seen at least seven of his games purely on tape. He reminds me of the guys that have done well the last couple of years. He reminds me of Bradford. He reminds me of Matt Ryan.’’

I do think Blaine Gabbert is a top-10 pick,’’ said former NFL coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden. “All you have to do is see the ball come out of his hand. He’s got a very quick, strong arm, prototype size. You know he has intelligence. He has speed. I mean, Gabbert ran very well at the combine. He’s elusive back there. His scrambling and playmaking ability I think will be very enticing.
“Once again, here’s a junior quarterback that comes from a very unique, different style of spread offense at Missouri where he’s been in the no-back set, and the shotgun predominantly. But I think his physical talents are very noticeable to everybody.’’

I wouldn't mind at all if we took him #1. Not that I know a lot about him but whatever. We need young new talent at the QB position. I just highly doubt he's available since everyone seems to think he'll be picked by Az.

We can pick him up as an unrestricted free agent since he is falling so fast.

Just finished watching a ton of film on Blaine (games; other than highlight reels), and it's a amazing how high this guy rose during his draft 'honey-moon' period.
Everything about this guy (even his jersey number in college) screams "ALEX SMITH". Horrible pocket awareness, bails-out too soon on a play, and has horrible accuracy throwing on the run.
Gabbert is nothing more than an overblown NFL back-up.

According to Kiper, Gabbert’s fall has occurred after NFL teams did “more film work” on the underclassman’s junior year. It’s true that Gabbert did not dominate his competition in 2010, throwing for 16 touchdowns compared to nine picks and averaging an unimpressive 6.71 yards per attempt
