ya his 16 td 9 int and 6 yard average in a spread offense in college is very compelling

Can you say, The Second Coming of Alex Smith? Remenber Utah, Urban Meyer, and the spread offense! Alex a can't miss? Well we all know how that turned out! Enough said!

well there was a huge difference to be honest when alex came to us we had no talent at all at any positio or atny coaching position we at least have talent and a HC now

Okay, drink the Kool Aid, hope I'm wrong if we pick him, hope I'm right if we don't!

time will tell, I dont think he drop below #12

Jon Gruden of ESPN (and the FFCA) seemed impressed.

Gruden is impressed by everyone.

No, Gruden points and plays to the positives in his analysis. He is not going to point out all the negatives and pick them apart, though he does touch on some things they need to work on/correct. However he mainly tries to accentuate the good, after all he is doing this for television. But at the very end of his segment with Gabbert he was very excited with what he had just seen Gabbert do on the field, moreso than with the other prospects from this year it seemed.

Dude, Gruden kinda jizzes over everyone. He was loving him some Teebow last spring.

And from what little we have seen of Tebow, he appears he may be be a franchise QB.

And Cassell never started a game but has become a decent NFL starter.

16-9 doesn't mean he can't become a great QB. You can't evaluate a QB by how many TD's he threw in college.

you can if youre gonna spend a top 10 pick on him

Big Ben threw 17 TD's to 15 picks in 2008. He threw 18 TD's to 23 picks in 2006. He has helped lead that team to 2 Super Bowl wins and 3 appearances already. That is proof that TD passes are a very small part of a QB evaluation and overvalued by the WZ.

no 16-9 doesn't mean he can't become a great QB. but I should decide HOW you evaluate him and WHERE you draft him. That's why Cassell wasn't a first round pick.

you're on crack. alex smith was NEVER considered a can't miss prospect. up until we picked him we were fielding calls to trade out of the #1 slot.

Drop all the Alex Smith 2.0 crap!!! This is ridiculous! This kid has a chance to be more of a Josh Freeman than Alex Smith! He played on a BAD Missouri team with no NFL talent at skill positions (similar to Matt Ryan coming out) and still led them to a great season.

He led them to a win over #1 Oklahoma and played in the BIG 12. To say that "Alex had better college #'s is an ignorant statement and is just not even trying to make a true comparison. He played at UTAH where his 2nd toughest opponent was the All Girl Mormon squad from 2 towns over! If you think: "Spread offense, white QB, wears #11 -- He's gotta be Alex!" than shame on you. Just take a minute to what everyone said when we interviewed Freeman 2 years ago (I think it's a much better comparison) and if we had a chance to do it over, he wouldn't have been available at #10.

If we take him and he works with Harbaugh (whom BTW I trust more than anyone on this board) he could see a Freeman/Ryan/Rodgers development and that is better than anything we've had in a long time. If he's there at #7 and Peterson is off the board, he should be the pick.

you do know that harbaugh wants alex back and not only has complimented him multiple times and has even offered alex a 1 year 3.5 mil contract beofre cba expired and also said that it will be avaiable after cba is i place

I do know that and I think that it's simply a matter of covering his backside against the lock out. In case there's no one else available for him, why wouldn't he want Alex to feel welcome and lead the team?

I also know he said he was "dazzled" at Gabbert's workout and I think at the end of the day the stats we saw out of Alex last year are probably going to be the best we get from him.

I've made all the excuses too (7 coordinators - 7 year) but there comes a point where a guy gets it done or he doesn't. Bradford got it done with a new offense this year (and AWFUL talent outside of SJax), as just one example. just because Alex can't get it done, doesn't mean that Gabbert is the same. Alex Smith/McNabb/Bulger/Palmer = stopgap; Gabbert = future.

noot to take aything away from bradford because he did amazing even considering the talent but what they did was genius they let bradford runa spread offense in stl so he didnt have to learn a new system

and i dont think we have seen the best from alex he has improved every year and has had 48 td and 38 int since his rookie year despite the fact that we had nolan and singeltary as our Hc(know nothing about qbs) and has had different oc every year and unstable tem (till about 2 years ago)

again alex has been a disspointment but the orgnization set alex in a position to fail from the start they didnt even give him a chance to suceed
