he is a rare athlete w/ what appear to be great leadership skills

if he proves he can understand schemes and has an unstoppable work ethic like jim harbaugh will demand...then we'd be stupid to pass up this kid at #7...esp w/ all his athletic talent

now, recognizing newton's elite talent level, i still feel like jake locker is the guy to get at #7.

Id be a little pissed with Locker at 7 if Newton was still there. He is definately hands down the best QB in this years draft class. After the senior bowl id say hes definately the most NFL ready compared to any QB who played that game. He is also probably the most unique QB prospect to come out in a long time. I cant think of a QB his size who ever had the stats and rare intangibles as Newton.
I'm kinda disappointed that we're not looking more into him. Identifying our next quarterback should be our number one priority, and we should be all over Cam. He is the best QB prospect and I don't see why he couldn't fit Harbaugh's offense? He's mobile, doesn't turn the ball over, can make the throws.

I don't care if we don't take him but we should know him inside out. We made the mistake about not doing homework on Josh Freeman don't make the same mistake.

Well, we do know that he has a lot of character questions and that he has a very meddlesome father. Those two things alone are enough to make me not want him.

Further, he is sort of a one-year-wonder, since this year is the only year he has played at a high level.

Also, the kind of offense he was in didn't have a timing offense and he constantly was waiting for receivers to be open before throwing the ball, instead of throwing the ball where the wide receiver is suppose to be.

Again, he seems to be more of a run first guy and that isn't good.

Further, his mechanics are similar to Tebow's, but further along. So he needs a lot of work in that area.

I just get bad vibes from this guy from all the negative things surrounding him.

Don't want anywhere near this wagon.

Care to explain why?

"Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, of Auburn and Westlake High, needs to stay in college and work on his God awful mechanics, according to Russ Lande, a former NFL Scout, who heads the War Room for the Sporting News.

Lande, who had his early Mock Draft up in Sporting News Today on Wednesday, doesn’t have Newton going in the first round. He does have three other quarterbacks being selected in the first round.

Lande considers Newton to be two to three years away from being ready to play in the NFL as a traditional quarterback.

Before the Auburn-Alabama game, they showed highlights of Newton’s poor mechanics, especially his lazy footwork. Lande has him rated as the 51st player in his Super 99."

wouldnt go anywhere NEAR him. hes just an overhyped college QB that wont make it in the pros. he doesnt have what it takes.

ok. so he says. I guess this was before the SEC title game where he came out
passing, and had an unforgettable game. He showed that he does have what it takes, and is a winner. As far as his mechanics, they are not the best, but thats what coaching does...Cam has played in three different offenses the last 3 years. He has shown he is coachable. You write him off because of what others say, well maybe there is a reason why this source is a former scout, the QB position has evolved.

One game doesn't mean anything. Poor mechanics is a big deal. Winning a bowl game doesn't make you a winner in the NFL. College and the pros are totally different, as Jamarcus russell proved. I'd rather have at least 4-5 other qb in this draft.

Your high on PCP if you think that he hasnt shown what it takes. One game doesnt mean anything huh? LMAO....he showed it for what 13 games this year? The system dictated he didnt have to throw much. But when he did lets see....66% completion , 30 TDs, 7 picks, 182 rating. Get up on out of here if you gonna compare him to Russell....why because he is black with a cannon arm? Russell never had Cams leadership, pocket awareness, elusiveness and speed.

All your points are based off of some sort of bias, and no facts. Your points are in valrod. K thanks Bye.

He is way better than Locker. IMHO. No worries, A mobile QB is what the Niners will be after, and Cam will get a look, not saying we will take him...I just know that Harbalke will, along with the other QB prospects, look at him. I think a year sitting, along with us throwing him in situations, will do him well. He is the black Big Ben...I gotta say, I'll take that on my team any day.

I would compare him more to Tebow. Tebow, in his final year, had a 68% completion, 21 TDs and 5 INTs and a 164 rating. He was much better his other years, but his college stats mean nothing, just like Cam Newton's numbers mean little due to the system.

Both Cam and Tebow have similar mechanical problems and they both aren't the best at anticipating where the receiver will be when throwing the ball, instead opting waiting for the receiver to come open to throw the ball.

I don't like Cam and I will be disappointed if the Niners take him.
at some of these people hoping scam will be a 9er, there is possibly no way in hell does baalke and harbaugh take a project like newton 7th. what makes you newton fans think that after the smith debacle that we'll take another project but a dumb 1 this time around coming from another gimmick offense. harbaugh and baalke dont have 2 yrs or possibly more to wait on newton to know the nfl and wco when we can get someone at 7 thats more of a clear picture
Cam newton has too much bust potential that we can't afford

Totally agree with this!!! This QB draft is weak at the top but the 2nd tier guys have potential if they get put into the right situation and system. I think Cam would not be put into the right situation in San Francisco because I don't believe he will be able to live up to the expectations 49er fans have from their QB. The biggest problem that I think Newton would have with the WCO is the footwork. The most important part of the WCO is the footwork and I don't belive Cam has the right footwork for the offense. If we were running the same offense as last year than Cam would be a good fit because he is big and strong and can run away from guys. I like Dalton, Stanzi and Ponder all better than Cam.

Every QB n player drafted is a project. You have to look at the rare & unique abilities when drafting in the top 10. For a QB needy team Newton fits the bill perfectly. More than any other QB we could draft. Look at what Harbaugh did with Josh Johnson. Newton is the heavyweight version of him. Without the Russell man titties. Cannon arm, speed, accuracy, poise, and elite size. The best of all he doesnt make bad throws into coverage. He doesnt make that game ending throw like a Locker,Mallet or Gabbert. Harbaugh is perfectly capable coaching his mechanics and footwork. Its a huge reason he is here and gets 5 mill a year. Once thats done we will have the best QB in the division.

scam is a project that harbaugh wont be working with and im happy about that, im 100% confident he wont be a 9er. but i guess people love to hope he would be a 9er only to see come the end of april he wont be and all this newton talk about hopefully being a 9er can die
