ESPN had 45 members of its NFL staff list five head coaching candidates who aren't currently NFL head coaches.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made the list. But he finished at No. 13.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is at the top, although he told reporters after Monday's Outback Bowl loss that he isn't going to the NFL. Alabama coach Nick Saban is No. 4.
Those two have been NFL head coaches before going back to college.

The other college coaches in the top 15 are Washington's Chris Petersen (No. 10), Washington State's Mike Leach (No. 14) and Clemson's Dabo Swinney (No. 15).
We're not likely going to see any of those six coaches in the NFL next season.

But it's interesting to see that Meyer isn't as highly regarded as Harbaugh and Saban in the eyes of people who cover the NFL.

Vast majority of systems in college won't work at all in nfl

I actually think Kirby Smart on Georgia might have the best nfl potential

Isn't Smart a Nick Saban disciple?

Yup. Smart was on his Dolphins staff too.
There are also guys like Doug Marrone who are better suited for NFL coaching than college.
UM opens up against Notre Dame next season so we're going to know pretty fast how concerned they should be. Most have them as a top 10 team next year returning 9 starters on a top 5 d, with really only big shakeups on the o line.

They also could have 2 top 10 picks in Rashan Gary and Shea Patterson. Really there's no excuses next season.

ND is losing a lot of talent so Michigan should win.
Lol but he still can't beat Ohio state when it matters

It does really seem like the two leagues are getting farther and farther apart with every year.

You're hearing more and more GM's talking about how hard it is to truly evaluate players esp. along the OL, WR and QB position due to the spread system.

I'd love to see Jim come back to a team with a strong D and ST and set his ego aside and allegiance to BoS and grab a young WCO mind. And just let it rip.

His mindset is right in line with the WCO...attack, attack and no mercy. Then impose your will on them using the running game in the second half. Defeat them in every way.

Don't use the qualifier "only" when talking about the o-line. USC had the most talented team on the field... except for the o-line... Won a weak PAC, sure; played legitimate opponents... and it got ugly.
I wonder if Harbaugh goes to the Giants. They both want to run the same type of offense. Run first, lean on good defense and special team.

Harbaugh lost a lot of his luster

Yes but they seem to what the same type of coach. Safe conservative offense wise and good defense.
Bad recruitment for Harbs.

More pressure to have a big year
