Maybe, but at least one or two big ten schools in the end could be in the playoffs.

I believe strength of schedule will have something to say in the end or have a huge factor as always, I just don't see a one loss or even two losses being a biggie in this conference, not when this is the premier conference now and no other conference has 5 playoff contenders in theirs as does the Big Ten. Judges will factor that in.

I would love an undefeated season but I don't think that's realistic. Having the 3rd toughest schedule with 1-2 losses in this conference should get us in the playoffs.

Michigan with 2 losses and the 3rd toughest schedule? In a 5 playoff contender conference? Including playing ND another playoff contender?? There's no reason why they wouldn't be in.. If only 2 losses..

Michigan plays ND, Penn st, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Mich st and the other school..

Those are 6 playoff contenders Michigan will play this season, 2 losses should not affect a playoff slot, not with this competition. The strength of schedule will have a say this year. Imho

Losing to ND would be disastrous because it's head to head v a possibly playoff team. If UM is Big 10 champs and ND is sitting there with a victory over them.

But most have ND as a playoff contender in 2018? Thus why Michigan has the third toughest schedule in the nation. When you have to face possibly 6 playoff teams? 2 losses won't be detrimental imho.

I hope we go undefeated but realistically facing 6 possible playoff teams with two losses should have the Wolverines in the playoffs. Michigan faces a higer quality of opponents in 2018 with the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation.. That counts.. ND could easily push for a 1 loss season..

ND

Michigan
Ball state
Vanderbilt
Wake forest
Standford
Virginia tech
Pitt
Navy
Northwestern
Florida state
Syracuse
USC

Michigan

Notre Dame
Western Michigan
SmU
Nebraska
North western
Maryland
Wisconsin
Michigan state
Penn state
Rutgers
Indiana
The other school.

When you compare schedules, There's about 2 playoff contenders for Notre Dame vs 6 playoff teams Michigan will face.. Huge difference..

"So nearly half of Michigan's games in 2018 will come against teams that enter the season with serious College Football Playoff aspirations. And three of those five games — at Notre Dame, at Michigan State and at Ohio State — come away from Ann Arbor.

Michigan brings back a lot of talent on both sides of the ball in 2018, and the program could get another boost if quarterback transfer Shea Patterson is declared eligible. But if Harbaugh is going to lead Michigan to its first College Football Playoff berth in 2018, it's going to take an impressive effort to get there."
"Michigan also leads the country in playing teams that ended last season ranked. The Wolverines have a total of six ranked teams from a season ago on the slate. No other team in the country has to play more than five. UM's opponents also won 62.7 percent of their games. Those numbers also trailed only Florida State and Nebraska."

"It's certainly possible. Michigan has to play a number of teams with playoff hopes or at least hope of winning a conference title. In some ways, it can be a good thing. If the Wolverines win the Big Ten and only have one or two losses, the strength of its schedule would make for a strong argument."

Like I have been saying 2 losses with this schedule would be a disappointment for college football to leave them out with those quality opponents they are facing. No cfb team is facing 6 ranked opponents like Michigan is.

Strength of schedule will or should matter with Michigan if it's a 2 loss season and win the big ten.

So far the committee has favored the 1 loss teams. That's where I separate from you. SEC will get in no matter what, ACC and Big 12 will likely have a 1 loss team, if ND has a better record and head to head win it's over.

At 2 losses the chances are always pretty slim of getting in. Mich's ugly style isn't going to convince anyone they're a top 4 in the country too with a few losses. I think you're putting too much weight on the Big 10 sos they were strong last year and a 2 loss OSU got snubbed. But we're getting way ahead of ourselves here.

I saw some posts that said Harbaugh's program was going in the right direction.

I don't know how fast his new coaches will be able to kick start that offense, but I just looked at the Wolverienes wiki and the Offensive Coordinator position is vacant. Interesting. Is Harbaugh going to do double duty as OC and HC? Or is the wiki just late in updating?

Jim doesn't use a traditional OC spot. Pep Hamilton calls the plays from the booth. His official title is Assistant Head Coach/Passing Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks.

if he does step in as play calling HC/OC, he is self sabotaging his own season

Not one but two... 😮😮 NC your in Cali right? Phoenix you're close enough.. This kid is big and shifty...
Michigan just got two of the best running backs in the nation committed. The backfield is going to be sick next year.

Harbaugh aint f**king around, our 2019 class looks solid thus far.

"Throughout the writing of this preview, I couldn't stop thinking about 2018. ... You can't take a "wait 'til next year" approach when you're still projected as a top-10 team, but if Michigan does lose a couple of late games and keep the "Never better than third in the Big Ten East!" meme alive, you should get your laughs in while you can. Because this program is probably a year away from ignition."

Oh, ok, I guess it's just a different set up but he still has assistants helping him. Pep Hamilton is a WCO guy under David Shaw, so I think Harbaugh is going back to the WCO (in a way) or at least going back to more of a timing and rhythm offense. I wish he would have coached under guys like Holmgren, Shanahan, or Reid instead of Seifert (played for him for 1 year) or Trestman (under Calahan). I think he'd be much further ahead from a X's and O's standpoint.

I wouldn't say that so fast, but I wouldn't disagree either. He has a lot to prove after being let go and going to Michigan. He was good enough to change Alex to a more of a NFL playoff caliber QB, and don't ignore the fact that Colin was also a playoff caliber QB. So from a QB development point of view, while there's a mixed baggage there - Andrew Luck, Josh Johnson, Alex and Colin - that's a lot of QB's that turned out decently and to me, *luck* (pardon the pun) just doesn't fully explain Harbaugh's career with QB's with me. I think he does have the ability be a good (if not great) OC, QB guru, and offensive X's and O's guy, but he has to prove it on the college gridiron. Not beating Ohio and so on kinda leads me to believe there's still something holding him back, and if he can figure out what *that* is - he'll be back in the NFL.

Why ty sir.

Good interview. I believe the ref he is speaking of has to be that call in the aints game, when Ahmad Brooks sacked Brees. That cost us home field advantage and first round bye I believe. It was blatant.

My pleasure, man.

Yeah, I think you nailed it. Agreed.
