"Shea Patterson went through all of spring practice with our team, and got great work in and played really well," Harbaugh said. "Brandon Peters was also improved this spring. Dylan McCaffrey probably made the most improvement of any quarterback on our roster.
"Joe Milton came in mid-year and participated in spring practice as well, and did very well."
Harbaugh has been especially vocal in his praise for McCaffrey, who redshirted last season in an attempt to learn the playbook and bulk up. He likes the way the 6-foot-5, 199-pound McCaffrey led the offense in two-minute drives in practice and says he's improved his throwing motion."

"Chase Winovich: Michigan offense will change to best utilize skill-set of quarterback"
According to Michigan defensive lineman Chase Winovich, the Wolverines offense is evolving to better utilize the skill-set of Shea Patterson and other mobile quarterbacks such as Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton.
Winovich prefaced his comments at Big Ten Media Day by saying he doesn't know who the starting quarterback will be and went on to say "Coach Harbaugh has become more open in the sense that he's ready to make adjustments to ensure that Shea is going to be in the best possible area. If he has to run more of a spread offense."
Patterson transferred from Ole Miss, a team that was a spread offense with heavy elements of the RPO (run-pass option).
"I would be surprised if (Harbaugh) didn't shift the offense around to what fits Shea best, or whoever is the quarterback. That's what I've noticed more and more with coach Harbaugh's mentality is slowly coming around to trying new things, figuring out something that works."
This should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed Jim Harbaugh's coaching career. As head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh changed the scheme midway through a season that culminated in a Super Bowl appearance. When Colin Kaepernick became the quarterback for the 49ers, Harbaugh used plenty of read-option and put him in the pistol formation, both elements were not used in the offense before Kaepernick took the helm as starting QB.
Based on Winovich's comments it sounds like Michigan will be using a little spread, RPO and pistol at the very least in 2018. They won't scrap the scheme that has been used prior, but the added wrinkles, added plays/formations, could potentially make it much harder for opposing teams to game plan against Michigan. But it all boils down to execution when the dust settles. Still an interesting development nonetheless."

Jim dodged a rebuild by bolting but Pete is about to endure a second rebuild. Many coaches like Schottenheimer have had really good winning % and got canned because they reached their ceiling.
It'll be fun to see how far Kyle can go, if Pete can rebuild and if Jim can win a big game (not reliant on just superior talent).
This year will be critical for Jim at U of M. I really can see him winning a national trophy. Having said that, if he doesn't - I think that will set him back a decade going back to the NFL (if that is a goal of his). Not winning a national championship, won't set him back in my eyes, because I dont' think any of our legendary coaches have ever won a national championship either -- but I'm pretty sure NFL owners sit up when a coach has won a collegate national title and has a solid NFL won/loss record. I think if Harbaugh does win a national title this year - I think he can write his ticket to any NFL team that will hire him and he can dictate the front office arrangements to his liking. Now, if he doesn't have total control and he lets the owner design a two headed front office, I'll be very disappointed in Harbaugh, for sure.
I don't think that matters at all. He's already proven how good of a coach he can be in the NFL and College. Not many coaches can say they have a winning % of .695% NFL and .640% in college.
Yeah, I miss the almost 70% winning percentage! Somehow Kyle's 38% winning percentage gives me stomach problems.
Having said that, once Jimmy and Kyle teamed up, the winning percentage they have - is something more to my taste!
If there is an owner out there smart enough to hire Harbaugh and give him total control, I totally agree, a national title won't matter. One guy I think might do that is Robert Kraft. Assuming Brady is gone, and Bellicheat retires, he's one owner that will (I think) look at Jim and just might give him total control. Of course, Bellicheat is grooming Josh McDaniels to replace him, but lets say Josh does what all the rest of Bellicheats assistants do and that is lose more than win, I can see Kraft looking at Harbaugh and possibly moving towards him even if Harbaugh doesn't have a national title. Now, if Harbaugh wins a National Title, that's a big feather in his cap and half the NFL will be gunning for him in my opinion. He was a pretty hot commodity coming out of Stanford (and he never won a national title with Stanford), and he had multiple NFL teams vying for his services, it would be even more teams this next year if he wins a National Title.

He didn't have to hire Tumsula, Jeep and Mangini, he chose those guys.
Thank goodness the blind squirrel found a second nut.
pretty sure Jed's Mom hired Kyle.
I'm inclined to agree with you.
She does technically own the team...
Personally, just my opinion, but I think Denise has more of a relationship with Mike Shanahan (Kyle's father) than Jed does. Afterall, Denise was there when Mike was OC for Seifert when her brother owned the team. Having said that, I don't have any thing that proves for certain that Denise was the one that put her foot down vs Jed. However, it just feels right. While Jed was floundering with FartSula, ChimpKelly, and BaalKnees - I think Denise was keeping in contact with Mike and through him, Kyle.

That false narrative never seems to die out? Lol
Like the real world really believes it.
He's right.
Like they ever get the top 4 teams right?
OSU ranked the 4th best team won it all.
MI State was the 3rd best team and got shut out by Bama 38-0.
OSU was the 3rd best team in and got shut out by Clemson 31-0.
The #1 ranked team hasn't won it all in the playoff format.

Top 5 coach.
But I agree...whether he wins a big one or not, his style is perfect for a rebuilding team in the NFL and many owners would be happy to pay one man to do two positions and just get ot of his way.

I meant the false narrative that Harbaugh left and didn't get fired. I agree with him. He was fired.

ESPN has them 5th in their opening power rankings. That's 5th in the Big Ten not country.
I can respect that.
As they should. They are basing off of the rankings of last year's performance and 8-5 season. It was a merry go round with Qb's, injuries.
The 247sports and other news are hyping up because they saw they were young, we lost alot to the draft, most news expected a down season last year.
We have 19 starters coming back including 9 in that top 5 defense..
Harbaugh has his 5 star Qb Shea Patterson, Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton now. Tariq Black WR broke his foot early last season, Peoples-Jones was the star receiver with Okorn behind center. Everyone healthy knock on wood. It's built to win now and in the next couple of years with his talent now in place..
The defense alone will have us in the game combined with Shea Patterson, wr, te, rb positions are loaded. The oline is working, is what needs to gel. Every other position is loaded with nfl players. 9 in the top 300 according to espn.. That number will rise after this season.
It's time for production, the next couple of years for Harbaugh will be sweet, beating the other school will be bittersweet..
First things first. ND, Huge game in their house.

"Black and Peoples-Jones were two key pickups for coach Jim Harbaugh in the 2017 signing class, and both players will be counted upon even more in 2018. Black caught 11 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown through three games but suffered a season-ending foot injury. Peoples-Jones grabbed 22 receptions for 277 yards over 13 games. With Shea Patterson at the helm, look for both players to fulfill their recruiting hype with a solid sophomore campaign."
Our defense will have us in the games, with 9 starters coming back on defense. That's a fact. This offense is set to explode this season.
We coming for a playoff spot. You can call it bias.. but if you are a football fan..
You could see the pieces are there, I don't need to go to Michigan to see this talent Stoney + a top 5 defense. We coming for that trophy and will get it in the next couple of years if not this year.
( Even though I wana go to that penn st game in Ann Arbor)

"Thankfully, Black was given a medical redshirt and starts this season with four years of eligibility. And alongside Peoples-Jones, he should be a starting receiver. There are some skills guys on the perimeter to contend with, such as Nico Collins and Oliver Martin, but Black and Peoples-Jones are a cut above the rest.
In terms of the slot, Michigan also has some capable candidates. Grant Perry, a senior, will win the job most likely, although he will get some stiff competition from Eddie McDoom, who has 24 receptions in his first two seasons at UM.
