My biggest issue with Harbaugh is his Offensive play calling methodology. He's not the only guy that runs plays this way, but he doesn't seem to do it as well as the other guys. In the end, UM better give Harbaugh a lot of rope, because their last good coach Carr, was a while back.

After opening the week in South Bend, @CoachJim4UM talked with @BradGalli WXYZ about seeing opportunity in the season, and having big goals still intact.#GoBlue 〽️🏈 pic.twitter.com/g0Sn4DJOl4

He is sticking with the same line. Hopefully they can grow as a group this month.
The big ten games are still ahead. That's what will decide this season.
The offensive line will need to gel. It's a very young group.

4th year there but 3rd year recruiting*
There's no better coach on the market at that time than Harbaugh. I agree. He isn't going anywhere.
Nico Collins caught that 54 yard pass. The young wide receiver showed promise stepping in for Tariq Black.

I knew it was either 3 or 4. Ether way, the first thing to come out of Michigan when he came was a huge jump in recruiting talent. Which tells ya, the seniors on this team may not be the most productive. It takes time. Especially when tOSU and ND is biting into your talent base. And, tOSU doesn't play fair. Those guys are playing in the wrong conference with the s**t they pull. They belong with the Day Cares down south.

"Nico Collins talks growth as a receiver"
Shea Patterson's 52-yard completion to Nico Collins traveled 50 yards in the air, the most air yards on a Michigan completion since 2012. pic.twitter.com/2li8LpOSQp

Just have to get the oline fix like you said Geidi.. They have to grow. They are very young but need those battle scars to create that bond.
I'm hoping these next couple games they will have an opportunity along with Nico Collins, to get in sync with Shea and Dylan.

That's been a theme in a lot of games this weekend. Watching SC, I was b***hing about the line the whole game. But Stanford had line issues... that appeared to be worse than SC's. I started paying attention to other games... same issue.
Line play across the board seems to be trash. Maybe it's first game jitters... but it seems to not be an exclusive issue to any team.

I hope they can get it together so we can get this young gun going. The pieces are there.
Nico Collins drew rave reviews from teammates and coaches during camp.

Then, on the first play of the second half Saturday night, Collins showed why the Wolverines were excited about what the sophomore wide receiver has to offer.

#Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh picked Brenda Tracy as the team's honorary captain for this Saturday's home opener.
— Maize n Brew (@MaizenBrew) September 4, 2018
Tracy is a sexual assault survivor who travels the country to bolster awareness of violence against women. Great selection by Harbaugh. https://t.co/L6izrwjWdW pic.twitter.com/SWTOV1zMHS

Originally posted by Geeked:Well, Ed Warriner and Pep Hamilton are from the West Coast Offense kind of coaching philosophy, so maybe Harbaugh is trying to develop some X's and O's technical expertise? If he can get away from basing his offense against the run game, maybe his play calling will become more varied? I don't know much about college rules, but if they are anything like the NFL, then basing his offense more on the pass setting up the run might clear up that disadvantage that most run oriented offense have with the rules stacking towards the pass. From a ground offense point of view, there's not that much variation - you either run up the middle, to the left or to the right.

Sometimes a good RB can make a crap O Line look good. Does Harbaugh have a good young stable of home run 'backs?

"Michigan's, behind new offensive line coach Ed Warinner, did not look as good. And one main difference was the rather immediate penetration Notre Dame was able to achieve. It was the type of pressure that ruins plays. And it usually came from the edge. Michigan seems to have had a tougher time replacing the departed Mason Cole than Notre Dame did replacing Mike McGlinchey."
5. Both teams found little rushing success ... with their running backs.
Michigan's running backs went for 73 yards on 23 carries. Notre Dame's went for 80 on 24. The difference in the rushing yardage, 132 to 58, was mostly the legs of Wimbush.
6. These teams are pretty similar.
Removing end-of-half and end-of-game drives, Michigan averaged 4.44 yards per play (302 on 68 plays) to Notre Dame's 4.47 (304 on 68).

We have Karan Higdon and Chris Evans who are very solid running backs but they couldn't do anything. They are kinda the same running back. Chris Evans didn't get much time until the end and it was the same issues.
Penetration up front.
Harbaugh has recruited 5 star California's Charbonet who is his more his prototypical big and fast running back but that's next year.

Our Running Backs. Karan Higdon rushed over 900 yards last year.

Harbaugh's commits next year. They are going to be more his thunder and lightning.
Karan Higdon and Chris Evans are very good but speed running backs. More lightning than thunder.

Michigan has the quarterback to do some of the things that made Colin Kaepernick a star.
By Daniel Allweiss on September 5, 2018 1:51 pm
https://www.maizenbrew.com/platform/amp/football/2018/9/5/17819150/michigan-football-can-duplicate-success-of-jim-harbaugh-colin-kaepernick-with-shea-patterson?utm_campaign=maizenbrew&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&__twitter_impression=true
"Between 2012-14, Kaepernick made 45 starts and put up 60 touchdowns to 26 turnovers. San Francisco made the playoffs in 2012 and 2013, reaching the NFC Championship game both times. In six career playoff starts, the Harbaugh/Kaepernick duo averaged 229 yards per game at a 58 percent clip with an additional 84 yards per game on the ground. The Niners went 4-2 and averaged 27.8 points per game — which would have ranked fifth in the NFL in 2017."
"The thing with pro-style offenses is that they can become quite complex. There's a reason that the NFL has only limped towards full-blown spreads (QB injuries do play a large part). It's because elite NFL talent like Tom Brady can shred a defense when his offense is running option routes, complex blocking schemes, and exotic motion that creates unique formations. College quarterbacks and skill position guys have proven mostly incapable of this, which seems obvious since they're 18-21 years old."
"They can't handle the complexity of this offense. They're not ready yet - as a unit - to take advantage of the subtle complexities in safety movement when a tight end moves from on-the-line to off... as an example. Harbaugh's offense at Michigan has repeatedly confused its personnel in efforts to confuse the defense. This leads to a dumbed-down, vanilla pro-style that hasn't averaged four yards per carry against a team with a pulse in three years"
"Many of us have been looking for a simpler, 49ers-style offense for a couple years now, though this may be the first time Harbaugh has the quarterback. Neither Jim McElwain nor Pep Hamilton have the background to successfully incorporate these type of things, but Harbaugh does. He could do it this week, against a Western Michigan team who made Eric Dungey look like he was wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.
I want to see some creativity in the home opener, but history suggests Michigan comes out and runs 40-50 I-formation dives with Higdon and Evans for the next few weeks (while racking up 300 yards against overmatched teams) until Wisconsin and Michigan State stifles it.
Six years ago, Harbaugh made a bold decision to insert Kaep and rebuild his offense around a mobile quarterback with a big arm. It's probably time to unleash Patterson in the same way."

Ouch. That's not a good sign for his offense. Ideally you'd want a Chuck Muncie type of back that can run very well and also catch passes (Harbaugh's Stepfan Taylor at Stanford is another example). How is the Tight end situation?

Zach Gentry caught 17 passes for 303 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2017.
'The sky's the limit' for Michigan's tight ends in 2018

Pretty much loaded in regards to the Tight End position. Gentry, Mckeon and Eubanks.
