I would be shocked. His ego can't admit a mistake. Pep will likely still be there next year with his other inept offensive assistants.

Sounds like Greg Roman all over again.

He is who we thought he was.
Love JH....but god damn man, stop s**tting the bed in the biggest games . Huge disappointment today
Welp.. Congratulations to osu for that ass whooping.

1) Don Brown s**t the bed.. Knowing those crossing routes hurt us against Indiana. He refused to play zone. We put 39 points up but Michigan should have been passing against them.

Watson was exposed all day. He couldn't keep up with his speed. They exposed that 3rd defensive back all day and Don Brown refused to play zone when those crossing routes were killing us. We don't have their speed. You play zone to put your players in position.

There was no sacks and no pressure.

2) Jim Harbaugh cannot play this old school control the clock scheme on offense against this type of program. Speed killed us and Michigan just doesn't have the speed to match with these big schools.

He still needs to work on recruiting. I thought we did, I thought we had enough speed with these Florida boys on there but they are just not fast enough against these elite teams. We should have been throwing the ball since Maryland put 50 on them.. We need 4.3 speed on both sides of the ball.

Jim Harbaugh needs to assign an Offensive coordinator and stop b******tting along with recruiting faster players.

3) This team needs to get faster. They exposed our third wide receiver all game.

Speed killed us. Unless we get faster, Jim Harbaugh won't be able to contend with these Qb's that can run and have high powered offense.

Embarrassing loss and there is much work to do in recruiting and scheming. I really thought we were fast enough this year.

The combination of lack of zone and speed was exposed when playing these teams with speed.

Speed killed Michigan. The defense got exposed with speed and lack of zones. Michigan doesn't have the speed to contend with these elite programs yet.

Crossing routes killed this defense and Don Brown refused to play zone... We didn't have the players to matchup man to man. 62 points is inexcusable...

Michigan needs 4.3 or 4.4 speed if they are to play man coverage all day long. Simply don't have the speed.

Congratulations for coming straight back here, can't have been easy. Also for posting your own stuff, not just quotes from other sites. This one wasn't available over here so sadly I couldn't watch it. But if you are going to get beaten, at least get beaten by a good team. There will be another year for Michigan and meantime they will be in a bowl game. And to be honest Alabama look close to unstoppable.

Kudos for this post.

Thanks English. Tough pill to swallow but gotta give credit where it's due... Crossing routes destroyed Michigan. Indiana found that weakness and osu took it to another level.

I thought Don Brown would have that taken cared of after Indiana. Michigan just doesn't have the players to matchup up man to man against these elite offenses. I just don't understand why he refuses to play zone when offenses attack that defense with crossing routes.

Yea you are most likely right.

I deserve to eat crow. I thought we had the speed to contend with the elite programs this year. I was wrong. Hopefully 2-3 years of recruiting 4.3-4.4 speed will help to bring in the players for this aggressive man to man defense.

Definitely out coached on both sides of the ball. There's no excuse not to open up the playbook and throw downfield having Nico Collins, DPJ and Tarik Black. Michigan needs an offensive coordinator along with 4.3 or 4.4 speed on defense if they want to run that type of aggressive defense.

You guys might be right. Harbaugh might have to give up some power on the offensive side of the ball. The gameplan should have been to throw on osu.

All on point, but I would add another couple of things:

1) In terms of the offense, the complete identity has to change. It cannot be a run-first team anymore. This has been Harbaugh's MO pretty much throughout his entire career from SD to Stanford to the 9ers, same ole stuff. The passing game has only been a "by the way, we do throw the ball once in a blue moon" thing more than anything else. Do you remember when Harbaugh first took over the 9ers in 2011? It was Frank Gore all the way and Alex Smith was really merely a game manager. That will have to change. He will have to re-develop the entire passing game approach, it needs to be much more dynamic.

It is more than just "speed" although of course speed helps. I am talking about the playbook, I am talking about systems, schemes, routes, playcalling and so forth. Plus, Harbaugh needs to be much less predictable. Unlike the run-first approach, there needs to be much more balance.

2) Choice of quarterback. Have you thought about what if Haskins was Michigan's QB instead of Shea Patterson? Shea Patterson is nowhere near Haskins' level. For starters, he doesn't have the arm. Have you noticed he always underthrows? He just doesn't have any power. This is definitely something to think about. Sure Shea Patterson might be able to beat the lesser teams, but if you want to take Michigan to the next level such as to beat Ohio State and to compete in the CFP, then you will need a better QB.
Speed on offense? Harbaugh asked, what is that? Don't need it. Don't know how to implement it. Can't take advantage of it.

Give me a run game and a TE all day.

He learned everything about football from schembechler. What little he knows of the passing game, he learned from Lindy Enfante

Nah dude, you don't need to eat crow. They worked their way up to top 4 but identical JH issues and patterns emerged in the big games. It'll just be easier to see going forward but perhaps, THIS is the game where JH eats crow and grows/adapts or gets out of the game altogether. Who knows.

Either way, he's got to either modernize his offense, change his entire philosophy and completely turn it over to an innovative mind or step away.

The issue is his ego and control freak nature may not allow himself to evolve...that's been the real issue with 9er fans since he was here. This is just another version of Greg Roman but he's the true source of it all...of the offensive philosophy.

Bo Schemblacher 2.0 in a modern 2018 game. I actually thought it would work at the college level but it's clear even college has evolved more offensively.

His receivers will crush you down field with their blocking. Oh by the way, they can catch too

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you think speed may have been an issue.
Only so much you can do. OSU is a better program. He just can't blow opportunities at home like he did in years 2, 3 because when you get stumped like that It's a talent difference.

What Harbaugh needs to do is acknowledge that the game has changed significantly since he played for Bo Schembechler at Michigan. Back then a strong run game and defense could keep you in contention against anyone. Nowadays, college football is all about explosive offense. Running up the middle on 1st and 2nd down over and over doesn't get it done. You still need a top end defense but your offense had better be explosive and capable of scoring quickly too. Even Alabama has opened up their offense quite a bit.

We'll see if Harbaugh is interested in winning big, even if he has to give up some control to bring in an OC with a modern offensive philosophy or if he doubles down on his Schembechler Ball philosophy, even if that makes winning big games a lot tougher.

To me, if he could talk Kingsbury into being his OC and then leave him the hell alone, that could be a good marriage of traditional Midwestern style football and newer cutting edge spread-style attacks.

Pretty much lol

Huge choke job
Do people really think Harbaugh is gonna change his style or give up power? WTF? lol

He picked this team. He built it it. He is 100% responsible for its players, skill set, and style. And he was 100% outclassed again. Just like every other big game in his career. It's not by chance. You can bet your money on it happening. He is superior to average coaches/teams. He's inferior to great coaches/teams.
