We hadn't made the playoffs in 8 years. He was like 44-19 or something. It's not his fault we bombed after we fired him.
I think he's putting too much of our decline during that time solely on Harbaugh, but I get what 49AllTheTime is saying. Jim's last year we went 8-8 and the roster quickly deteriorating the next two years, which was only compounded by Patrick Willis retiring and Frank Gore leaving.
Yeah it quickly deteriorated, cuz we took a winning HC, with a tough as nails attitude, and booted him for a DL coach, in way over his head. And Chip Kelly. That's not 'on JH'. In any universe. The team JH inherited, the 2010 season was over in September. As they say, you are your record. JH had a great one. Can't assign losses to him that took place not on his watch.
Honestly, we can't underestimate the role that bad drafts between 2012- 2014 played in that.
In 2021 we drafted 7 contributors(to varying degrees)
1. Aldon Smith
2. Colin Kaepernick
3. Chris Culliver
4. Kendall Hunter
5. Daniel Kilgore
6. Bruce Miller
7. Michael Person
Of this group Aldon self destructed by 2014, Kap fizzled out by 2016, and Bruce Miller killed his career with a domestic assault.
In 2012 we didn't draft one contributor
1.A.J. Jenkins Illinois
2. LaMichael James Oregon
4. Joe Looney Wake Forest
5. Darius Fleming Notre Dame
6. Trent Robinson Michigan St.
6. Jason Slowey Western Oregon
7. Cam Johnson
In 2013 we had Eric Reid who was a really good player for a little while and Quinton Dial who contributed some quality snaps for a few years as the on contributors of any consequence.
1. Eric Reid LSU
2.Tank Carradine Florida St.
2.Vance McDonald Rice
3.Corey Lemonier Auburn
4. Quinton Patton Louisiana Tech
4.Marcus Lattimore South Carolina
5.Quinton Dial Alabama
6. Nick Moody Florida St.
7.B.J. Daniels South Florida
7.Carter Bykowsk Iowa St.
7. Marcus Cooper Rutgers
2014 in this group Jimmie Ward turned out to be a better player than any of us expected considering his rough start. Carlos Hyde was a guy that contributed for a few years. Chris Boreland looked like he might be something until he retired early due to concussion concerns, and Dontae Johnson stuck around and kept finding his way onto our roster even as recently as last season.
1. Jimmie Ward Northern Illinois
2. Carlos Hyde Ohio St.
3. Marcus Martin USC
3. Chris Borland Wisconsin
3.Brandon Thomas Clemson
4.Bruce Ellington South Carolina
4.Dontae Johnson North Carolina St.
5.Aaron Lynch South Florida
5. Keith Reaser Florida Atlantic
6.Kenneth Acker SMU
7.Kaleb Ramsey Boston Col.
7. Trey Millard Oklahoma
In conclusion:
Jim was a good coach, and the bad coaching hires in 2015 and 2016 certainly didn't help, but In my opinion these drafts would have sunk that team regardless if Jim stayed longer or not. When you really break those drafts down, it makes you wonder how in the hell Baalke was kept around as long as he was.

Good breakdown, the drafting is Baalke imo,
I just don't get the we sucked after Jim left, cuz of Jim takes..

Same here. The way I see it the talent was going to bottom out under any circumstance due to the horrid nature of these drafts.

Man you guys trying to rehash all this stuff yet again? The owner (Jed York) was the problem. He did nothing but try to sabotage Harbaugh at the end. Because his feelings got hurt when he said "this meeting is just for the guys." He was a catastrophe. Firing coach after coach. Hiring clown show coaches one after another. No patience or planning for anything. Harbaugh was an excellent coach with a very difficult eccentric personality. But making the NFC Championship and Super Bowl with KRAP and Al_EXCUSES is not really something to be criticized for. It's remarkable and amazing. Punching way above weight. He took the Michigan program who could never beat Ohio State, get to the playoff, win the Championship to doing all of those. They were nowhere near that before him. Standford was nowhere near as good before him and neither was University of San Diego. He has won everywhere he goes.
He's a great, great football coach with a very difficult personality that you just have to put up with.
It helps not to have a stupid, immature, clown show owner. Denise Debartolo York stepped in after years of failure and put some limits on Jed. That helped. Have the upper hand LOL? What is that even supposed to mean? He literally made NFC Championship Games (multiple) and the Super Bowl with KRAP and Al_EXCUSES. Rather than criticizing that's absolutely remarkable. That's punching way above weight. Not even supposed to be there. They were under powered at QB by a lot. Still came incredibly close. The no call in the endzone for interference was crucial. Mahomes would have gotten that call. But not us. Just not how the NFL works. Normally they do let them play at the end. Unless your name is Mahomes and it's Kansas City.

as for owner nah.. if that were true we wouldn't have success today.
Kaep and Aldon is what saved Harbaugh because we had no offense.. the hot hand remember ? once that hot hand got cold, we had nothing

Look at that score, and consider our D, which was legendary. Tom was no huddle up on the LOS, pass after pass after pass with precision, our guys were getting winded, it was like damn, we can't stop this man. I recalled this, while watching SB 51, and Tom basically did the same thing to ATL, only thing that saved us is we kept scoring.
