clownish that that's your takeaway from that era of football, or when it comes to his tactics, coaching, etc. dude just won the NC
you are wrapped up in silly lil footnotes from over a decade ago
check the thread, this is LAC HC thread, how about a real convo on the contrast of styles with Reid and Harbs, or him walking into a city he wore the uniform, he has Mack and Bosa, and a FQB entering his prime, there is good convo to be had here, aldon aint it

It's a clownish takeaway that an undisciplined over penalized team with players getting arrested consistently wasn't disciplined?

He also never wore any uniform in Los Angeles.

I think his style will not succeed. He doesn't have the talent on offense that he had here so when teams stop the run there won't be much of a plan b. If he jettisons Roman and find a real OC he has a chance to build something if his DC is for real in the pros. Until then I see maybe the 9th best team in AFC.

You have to remember that they gutted the WR talent on that team and Roman runs a very unimaginative offense for the pros. I think Herbert is really good but who knows how he and the WRs will fit in that offense. Itll be 100% built around the run. I think they'll be a solid team but it'll be tough sledding initially is my guess.

Yah with an offense setting the club recored for field goals and the worst red zone offense in the league.

Sure if the Chargers defense morphs into the 2011 9ers they have a shot.

You are looking at things objectively tankle.

If they would've signed King Henry and drafted Nabers I'd be more bullish on being able to make up for a bad scheme. Gus Edwards and McConkey aren't that.

I hear you. that will be the initial question. I think if they get the Harb staples going of smash mouth physical ball, the rest will follow. You get safeties up and an elite QB will pick you apart one on one matchups, with even mid or basic WRs. I see a FQB, and a HC who played QB, and two high end tackles. That means Herbert should have time, and run support / ground game.

the D has Mack, Bosa, that checks the pass rush box, they have D James
i'm bullish,

Yeah, I'm just not very confident in their running back stable to be the work horses they need. They'll be well coached and really tough, just like all harbaugh led teams. I think their defense will be better than expected and their offense will struggle. Doesn't help that they play in a division with the chiefs. But I doubt the defense will be elite. Maybe top 12-14.

I personally think the real issue is that he will eventually go to war with the owner for being cheap. lol I think that relationship is a ticking time bomb.

I just found out that Shane Day is Jim's QB coach. Shane was Kyle's QB coach for two years, and then with Sean and the Rams then last year with Houston and Slowik. So if Roman stinks it up, I can see Shane being promoted to offensive coordinator. I know Jim loves Kyle's offense - and Shane is in Kyle's and McVay's coaching tree.
Harbaugh makes players and everyone around him tougher. He changes the mindset of the team, and he's done this everywhere he's gone.

Go look in the JH Michigan thread, a lot of people on here doubted him when he left the 49ers and watch how that thread mimicks his building process. It was like: he can't, he can't, he just may, he's a national champion! His resume looks the same at SD State, Stanford, 49ers, Michigan. Only now he has a college football national championship to sit next to his brothers SB championship trophy at his parents house.

Never doubt a Harbaugh.

It took 18 years as a college coach and OU's Coach to finally leave the conference for him to win

dude is a joke

That is very interesting, I didn't know that. That is very possible. If harbaugh can add some Kyle magic to his passing game and keep the smash mouth run game, it would be awesome. I love harbaugh as a coach. What i dont like is Greg Roman and spanos ownership. Harbaugh has an excellent qb and some good young talent - he will make some noise, I expect them to be a very tough team.

AFC is brutal though. I don't anticipate him making a championship run in the first few years. Bengals, jets, Baltimore, chiefs, Miami etc - tough tough conference.

Day was with Staley and the Chargers not the Rams.

He's more of a Martz coaching tree guy.
