I love harbaugh as a coach. What i dont like is Greg Roman and spanos ownership. Harbaugh has an excellent qb and some good young talent - he will make some noise, I expect them to be a very tough team.

AFC is brutal though. I don't anticipate him making a championship run in the first few years. Bengals, jets, Baltimore, chiefs, Miami etc - tough tough conference.

Lucky for them outside of the Chiefs and AFC North they avoid the tough parts of the conference. Also get the NFC South and the Cards. I was dubious on then getting a winning record but with that schedule it's actually possible. Could win 10 games without beating a quality team quite easily.

Day was with Staley and the Chargers not the Rams.

He's more of a Martz coaching tree guy.

Sorry I meant Shane Day was under Sean McVay in Washington in 2014.

You have to remember that they gutted the WR talent on that team and Roman runs a very unimaginative offense for the pros. I think Herbert is really good but who knows how he and the WRs will fit in that offense. Itll be 100% built around the run. I think they'll be a solid team but it'll be tough sledding initially is my guess.

Agree. I don't think he can turn the Chargers around as fast as Jim did with the 49ers. But I'd never bet against Jim. He's too good a coach. This time, I think, he has almost as much control over the team as Kyle has with the 49ers (if not more).

I see LA winning 12-13 games and being a day 1 contender, we've seen this script before.

team criteria:

do you have head coach: yes
do you have QB who is FQB: yes
do you have pass rush: Mack and Bosa, yes
do you have OL: R Slater with Alt, yes
do you have anything else: I like the physical running of Edwards and especially the do everything safety James.

they check most every single box,

More speaking things into existence I see.

Mack needs to show he can sack more than just the Raiders QBs and Joey needs to be healthy

Agree with you both, a lot of things have to happen for a 12+ win season for Jim, having said that - there's already a good core of a playoff team in place for that to make it likely to happen. I just want KC in pain going into the playoffs - just like us in previous years, and Jim's just the right guy to inflict that kind of pain on KC and Patrick.

He had a better core here facing a much weaker conference. Playing the NFC south is the only saving grace to a winning record for them.

Well keep in mind Seattle wasn't chump change back then. They won a lot of games. KC is kind of that team for Jim. Jim still was able to reach the playoffs and superbowl with Seattle being an obstacle. KC is a different animal, of course, but I think KC is being over reliant on Patrick - in a sense - under Andy's offensive scheme.

Unlike Kyle and Jim who base both their offenses under a strong run game, I think Reid is more of a pass first team and for good reason. One ding to Patrick (say 4 games out with a sprained something) can be the difference between making the playoffs and preparing for next season.
Harbaugh has Joey Bosa and Mack???

I forgot about Mack!!!
Harbaugh went to Patrick Willis hall of fame introduction. Saw pictures with Staley and harbaugh. Pretty cool he showed up for that

So did the rest of the league
not sure if this has been brought up .. but
I was looking to find Jim harbaugh's weekly pressers to the media from 2011-2014
BUT.. the 49ers took them all down.. unbelievable (maybe they are available elsewhere? youtube? I don't know)
there are pressers and interviews of all the other stuff from there from that time period, including OC Roman and DC Fangio

what a shame.

Remember what Harbaugh did with our guys the first year he took over, they were immediately able to reach their full potential.

We had a young hungry team. Mack is going on 34.

I'm sure he will get some better play out him and Bosa this year (if he can actually stay healthy) but I definitely don't expect Mack to turn back into an all pro.
