I think about "sweep" whenever his name comes up.
I'd say NO. He wasn't nearly good enough.
Then you really don't remember how good he was.
In his prime, he was as good, if not better, than Frank Gore.
He was better... Frank might be better between the tackles but to the outside, in the open field I give it to Watters...and Watters had better hands. He caught everything thrown his way.
He won't go...if he had stayed with the 9ers he probably would have...but he decided to go to the eagles and get paid by a team that would never do well.

Frank Gore won't be in the HOF either.

It was stupid of the 49ers to LET him go! Everyone is always down on Ricky for leaving, but those people seem o forget that after he scored THREE TD's in the Super Bowl, the 49ers offered him a rather modest contract to stay. Where do you think the "For who, for what" came from? Ricky wasn't a selfish player ever, until the 49ers made him that way. They taught him the lesson "Bust your butt and play your a@@ off for us, and we'll offer you half of what you're worth!".
It turned out badly for everyone. Ricky got the attitude, which hurt him the rest of his career. And it took the 49ers YEARS to find a running game again.

You know, I was just thinking about Ricky and the HOF while listening to his KNBR interview. I wonder if now that concussions have become even more of an issue if his "for who? for what?" infamous statement may not be seen in such a harsh light.
And yes, Craig needs to go in first.

Also, Bettis going in with very similar #'s and championship success helps Watters' cause.

If he would have stayed with the Niners after the '94 season, their running game wouldn't have gone to hell, they might have won a couple more championships, and he'd be a lock.
But he bolted to the Eagles for a little more money. Screw him. I'm still bitter. He's not getting anywhere near the Hall of Fame.

This. At least, I seriously hope that doesn't happen.

Dude, I'm with ya, and it really was just for a little more money. Personally, I also believe it was ego driven and he wanted to be seen as "the man". I also believe he didn't like being equated to a receiving RB and wanted people to view him as a true ball carrier.
