if he would have stayed and built his reputation with us, he would have had a fighting chance , even though he put up respectable numbers in Seattle and Philly, had he stayed and played with Steve & Jerry a couple more seasons ..who knows?? ...he could have helped build the 49ers dynasty and his legacy at the same time ..making him a shoe in for Canton

The official end of the dynasyty happened right after our last SB win. We lost both Watters and Neon in the offseason. They were the offensive and defensive MVP's of the team. Both in their prime, who knows, maybe 2 or 3 Super Bowls if the;y could have stayed.

Watters was not the Offensive MVP. Young and Rice were both more important playmakers. But Watters leaving tipped the balance to be too pass heavy for a mid-90s WCO.

Ricky Watters has HOF numbers, I think eventually he should make it
Frank Gore has HOF numbers, and already a clear HOFer

Also in 2014, Gore totaled 255 carries, and averaged 4.3 yards per. That was his ninth consecutive year over 200 carries while averaging at least four yards. He joined elite company, as Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, two of the all-time greatest running backs in history, are the only other players to do so.

Ricky Watters, NO.
Frank Gore, YES.
In the same amount of time, Gore has over 500 yards more rushing yardage. He's got 2 more rushing TD's and 2 less receiving TD's.
But, Gore's got another season at least; maybe two. He beats Watters to the Hall hands down.

I agree with this.
He would have racked up a lot more yards with us (imo), and may have another Super Bowl ring (or 2?) on his resume. He certainly would have been much more of a household name, which can help also as perception is reality.

nope that's just bitterness talking.
Watters was Marshall Faulk before Marshall Faulk. Marshall just did the smart thing and got on the NFL Network to work on new connections. If you notice, some from the NFL Network have become HOFers who weren't necessarily slam dunked to make it.
I love Gore too believe me, but on the field Ricky Watters was one of a kind athlete during his time.

^^^ You got me there. It's mainly bitterness. If the a-hole could have gotten a handle on his ego, the Niners running attack wouldn't have gone to hell and they probably would have been able to get past the Packers in the mid-90's.

if you watched his demeanor on these post game local 9er shows on Fox these past few years, you can see he is a different person now. And I'm sure if he could've went back in time to talk to himself...he would.
I think he just got a gig on CSN Bay Area for their 9er coverage... so I think many more are going to appreciate what he brings to the show. He's no blind homer, but at the same time...does give a genuine responses from former player's perspective. So he's not going to just bash someone because that is what the host and the show is pushing towards.
