This will damage them for years. No picks in the draft until the third round, and Payton can't be in contact with the team during the draft. Not sure who makes all the draft decisions over there, but you have to think Payton's got some say when it comes to pick time.

As for the Niners, this is good news. A division opponent is now weakened with the loss of their DC, and another division winner and playoff team is scrambling to figure out their coaching staff. Oh, and we move up one spot in the 2nd round, too.

yeah but a different guy calling the plays, will he be as aggressive as Payton? this changes things big time for the Saints

not to mention the fact that they have a mediocre at best defense and play in a division that looks to be improved and which has proven to be hard to win two years in a row.

I think the Saints will still be competitive and offensively will still be one of the better teams (too much talent not to be) and they will certainly be motivated like the Pats after Spygate, but I just think it'll be too hard for them to really contend this year.

Be kind of hypocritical of the GM to fire the HC, since he was in on it, too.

Does Benson fire Loomis, Payton, and Vitt a month before the draft? Maybe, but he better have his own Baalke waiting in the wings to make that work.
