It worked. Washington stayed on Kilgore even though he was never a threat. I doubt Kilgore would have even caught the ball if it had been thrown.
That was hilarious
potato ass cards. I would've left him uncovered. Worst case, they throw to him, he probably drops it. If he doesnt, he'll gain 5 yards then probably fumble.

Greg Roman, is he really good?

People really need to stop calling Kyle Williams things like an "ideal slot receiver" The guy really hasn't shown enough of anything as a receiver to justify that sort of praise. Once Manningham and and Crabtree comeback, Williams will be lucky to dress and/or play.
And if we want to highlight someone who Roman has misused/underused it has to be Vance MacDonald. Big, quick to turn upfield when he catches it. That's the guy who should get more touches down the stretch in my opinion.

I'm confused.
Did we or did we not make very numerous great plays on offense and defense this Sunday?
Did we or did we not have the lead the entire game this Sunday?
Did we or did we not mount a historically time consuming late game drive to ice it this Sunday?
Did we or did we not win the game this Sunday?
Just asking.

He is an ideal slot WR if you have a TE like VD and two outside receivers like Boldin and Crabtree. He is super quick off the LOS, up to speed in 2 steps (ala Hunter) and has good RAC. But out wide at the X or Z? Hell no! KW needs to be clean to come off the LOS and find soft zones, clear out space, wheel routes, etc. Almost like how I thought we'd use McDonald. Clean release? This is also why we move Boldin (Ravens as well) inside to the slot in the RZ. Still, Manningham would be the more ideal slot WR if 100% healthy and back to form. I'm not confident we'll use McDonald, VD, Boldin, Williams or Manningham properly in the slot though at this juncture. That's a bummer b/c that is the easiest and quickest pass for CK to make and is the perfect outlet/hot read on a blitz. Obviously, I 100% agree with you on McDonald and his underutilization...the good news is that he's become an excellent blocker!

Yet we are not able to put hardly any of these in situations to take advantage of mismatches.
which is the entire point.
our offensive personnel should dictate the game from week to week to exploit everything
we shouldn't adapt to any defense we should dictate.
my biggest complaint is that we don't use the talent we have while everyone is saying we need MORE.
for what? so they can get 2 snaps?
we clearly don't know what baldwin can or can't do cause we insist on letting a slot wr start on the outside.
we clearly see whenever macdonald is in and has the ball he makes plays...brent jones style but he hardly gets passing action. bruce miller is great but why not give it to the 6'5" 267lb tank running down the field?
anyone with 2 eyes sees that hunter is better in every way than he was before the injury.
why can't hunter get more touches... with limited touches he already has 3td's
these aren't complex concepts this should be coordinating 101 this should be something that anyone with half a bran who doesn't intentionally NOT do things just to be different should do

did we or did we not get the ball gift wrapped in the red zone 2 times in a row and could only come away with 6 points and 3 times in the first half and 1 resulting in a turnover.
could we or could we not get 5 yards for a super bowl victory?
has it or has it not been an issue his entire tenure here as oc...people blamed previous qb for us not punching it in but clearly we see what it was.
getting cute.

macdonald is criminally underused. criminally.
he has stepped up and done everything we asked him to do. he blocks excellent and he's a HUGE target who catches what you throw to him and runs over and through people after the catch...
we basically have Vern Davis ( top te imo) and we have Gronk (Macdonald) on our team and can't find a way to get him the ball, especially in the red zone.

I agree with this. We get cute in the redzone. This is the wrong time to do this. Once we get there we need to ram it home!

HaRoMan should be arrested for illegal-use of McDonald! After all, he's the next Mike Ditka (was that Harbaugh's reference?). Anyhow, I laugh at this b/c for 6 straight weeks in my upcoming game thread posts, I've said the same thing and have finally given up...that the key to the game will be McDonald being that intermediate outlet for CK, finding those soft zones and then being a nightmare after he catches the ball. Then I remembered (6 weeks later) that we don't run a WCO. LOL!

yea i don't care about passing td's in the red zone i don't think they should either from that close. inside the 20 sure but if you get the ball on the 8 and the 6 you run the ball 3 straight times and get the 7. its tone setting. if they haven't figured it out by now i don't see how they're coaching the offense.
the offensive line feeds off of punching people in the mouth. it helps every aspect. when we run the ball with power instead of cutely the offensive line has a way better game pass protecting. that's not even up for debate its just fact.
and off of those power formations which davis and macdonald are in, we run a fake and make an easy toss for a touch down to either of those massive targets.
its not that hard of a concept to grasp i wouldn't think

even man to man. they play us man to man no linebacker is as big as him he can catch it in traffic its simple really. we could realistically have him run intermediate and davis run deep whoever is open first gets the ball and there really wouldn't be a way to stop it

KW is the ideal slot WR small shifty and fast, we saw a glimpse of him in the slot on Sunday and low and behold he was open for a pass. this is how we should utilize him.

This. Two guys I want out in space with the ball in their hands, McDonald and James. McDonald deserves to get more targets, the way he looks to run over people and his size makes him a natural weapon out in the middle of the field just as James elusiveness and quickness does for him.

There's more to being an ideal slot WR than just being small and quick. The best slot WR's in the NFL are superior route runners, Kyle Williams is still a fairly sloppy route runner. Big difference. I agree that he belongs in the slot, only because he absolutely DOES NOT belong on the outside, but I'd hardly call him ideal.

somehow macdonald doesn't get targets only miller which is silly i would much rather have macdonald in the end zone and elsewhere rather than have bruce miller and that's not a knock on our full back but why not use macdonald
james is a different thing. we don't even use hunter enough and put in dixon to do things that scheme wise make more sense for hunter and james.
hunter is lamichael james but bigger and stronger and with limited touches he finds a big play or the end zone but can't get on the field cause dixon needs to get his stretch plays and screen passes
