I remember hearing this guy interviewed for the podcast. He did a great job...lots of talk afterwards of how we rarely attack with 3 WR's and esp. in the middle of the field (almost all our offense is to the sidelines).

I'm wondering if this is a way to hide Kaep or if this is genuinely how Har-Ro think about offense. We're the only passing offense that have so many passes to the sidelines. This team rarely attacks the middle of the field.

I hadn't even thought about that until I heard the podcast and offensive breakdown by the analyst...it's true. Now, CK can do it with his strong arm but you can't live on it or you'll end up with a lot of INT's like in Seattle for the NFCCG and this past w/e against the Bears. They talked about how Walsh always said the easiest pass for a QB is right down the middle of the field...shortest distance and best sight-line (esp with CK's height). I've seen him hit McDonald quickly in the hole, Boldin, etc. but IIRC, there just isn't a lot of activity on true crossing routes there, TE's that sit down in the holes, seam routes, curls there, releases by the RB/FB's, etc. Quick-slants even seeem a bit forced there. It seemed like we did that more under Alex...and now that the full offense has been installed, I'm guessing, HaRoman just don't call those plays? As to why? I have no clue...

Dayyyyem. Our intermediate+ passing game in full color. Looks consistent so far?

No one was complaining of our OC when Kap was running over everyone..

lol

Not necessarily. Not even close. By that token, why did Alex Smith look different under Greg Roman than under Jimmy Raye? And why does he look even better in Kansas City than he does now?

How you use the talent and put them in situations that allows players to take advantage of said talent is what separates OC. Look at the adjustments the Bears made in the second half, which allowed them to capitalize on the size advantage they had at receiver. And as susweel said, to suggest that we don't have a QB that is a real star, LOL.

Excluding the list of Super Bowl winning QBs, what QB would you consider a star?

again this is what we have done for the last three years,,, why in the world did anyone think it would be different.. you can only do fools gold so many times.. we are going to bust,, we are going to explode, blah blah blah
Yeah, CC, I watched while others made bold predictions for the new PASSING game, but after what we just saw, I truly wonder. The other thing, statistics aside, is the slowness of kap getting the ball gone. In the 2nd half on sun nite, I kept seeing this weird thing on the TV screen. Kap running around with his arm raised , death grip on the ball, and he stayed like that while scrambling. Besides looking silly and a great setup for a fumble, it reminded me that all the great ones, have the ball gone in 2.5 seconds or less. With kap and romn's stupid 5 or worse, 7 step drop, kap gets swarmed by a weakened yet tough team like the Bears.

A question. Why in the world can't kap be taught to get the damn ball gone in under 2.5 seconds. He literally NEVER does, but he truly should. If he wants to be great, he HAS to learn how to do that. When you have Dumbo upstairs, however, calling for these long developing 7 step drops, or even 5 steps, you blow thru not 2.5 seconds, but 3.5 seconds. Doesn't romn ever stop and think, "Jeez, our OL isn't blocking very well , so ok, we'll throw a pass that takes less than 4 seconds to develop?" And then look at that idiocy and we wish he would think, "unnh oh, better get the ball gone faster...need a quick hitting play." That doesn't happen much if ever, mainly because HaRo don't even think about it. And that is exactly why I wonder if Jed and Trent are going to extend Coach H. romn I could care less about. But I wonder if JH is actually going to be invited back if he doesn't take this team to the SB and win it.

The more I see of what I saw last night, the more I feel that Harbough will not be getting a new contract with the 49ers. Fact is, John (his brother) would have fired Roman by now. The next HC for the 49ers may be Fangio. I just don't see a whole lot more of this ending well.

I've been thinking the same for awhile now. Changes of Harbaugh coming back are under 25% IMHO. Jim's a great coach but in the long run I think he'd be happier returning back to coaching the college ranks. This way, he can go out and recruit the exact football players needed to play Jim Harbaugh/Bo Schembechler football.

Harbaugh is a smart guy and I'm assuming he realizes his weaknesses ie he has little interest in developing a sophisticated passing attack. We all know he prefers to build a stellar defense and pound the ball on offense. Luckily for Jim, he really came into the perfect situation when we started with the Niners. But now much of this has changed. Our defense (without Bowman, Aldon and Dorsey) will be more middle of the pack. Only way around this hurdle is to crank up the offense namely passing the ball. We'll continue to suffer in this department because that's not the way this team is managed.

I do not see Harbaugh firing Roman, or him having a change in heart regarding his offense. So at the end of the day, it's a stalemate.

York sees this as does Baalke. So when the Harbaugh leaves at the end of the year it will be mutual. That said, I VERY MUCH want the head coaching job to go to Fangio. He I like! Couple Fangio with a stud offensive coordinator and we are looking good!

People will jump down my throat at even thinking this thought let alone putting it in writing but I'm not the only one with this view.
