Greg Roman, is he really good?

LOL it's almost as if our OC is in a lose-lose situation. When Jimmy Raye was OC and the offense was fully built around Gore and he was a true bellcow of the simplistic offense, fans were clamoring for a complex, creative, imaginative O. Now we criticize Roman for being too complex and creative and wish he would go back to just predictably feeding Gore play after play after play after play. Anyone else notice this paradox?

creative but can't find a way to use hunter james baldwin and macdonald?

scheming so 2 people can get open all the time is not complex. defenses have just said everyone else is not a threat in the passing game just guard these two.

opening up the passing game is what would work make everyone a threat to catch and run. use some of the talent you have he's in a win lose situation.

if he just merely sticks with running the ball which he is great at designing we win.

if he tries to go away from what he's good at we lose.

this has been the case the entire season.

we need a passing specialist to balance out with the run specialist we have here. 2 oc's one for the passes one for the runs and have them both call the game at the same time depending on down and distance.

Damn! I don't typically like the Cohn's, mainly Lowell, but Grant is coming out throwing haymakers! Can't disagree with any of it.

No, most people are clamoring for him to stop calling a passing offense that would be ineffective in Division 3 NCAA football. People criticize him for not running when the run game is rolling over the other team and not having any rhythm or creativity to his passing offense.

Matter of fact, they're probably the least sophisticated and imaginative in the league, inferior to even college passing attacks by design. All of his creativity and strengths lies in the running game which is why it is head scratching when he abandons it even when it works.

Roman is also criticized for not utilizing all of the personnel he has effectively and rightfully so. Roman is afforded with an offense that is loaded with talent and potential play makers, there is no reason why we should look this bad and this dull. Other OC's are getting more with less.

Everyone can see the passing offense can use a boost. Yet Roman has the TE McDonald from Rice that was noted for his receiving abilities blocking 90% of the time. Why not throw a few screen passes to LMJ? More quick slants, get Hunter and Gore more involved in the passing game.

It drives me nuts that for the past ten years, we get to look at other coordinators running efficient offenses with less talent, while the Niners continue to run this stone age offense. From Nolan to Singletary to Harbaugh. All of them have had the mentality that offenses that worked in the 80s will work now.

What is worse is that this defense, for three years now, has been a super bowl caliber defense. Those guys deserve a ring, and this offense will probably hold them back from making that a reality.

Unfortunately, I was born in 84, so although I would watch with my Dad when I was a kid, I really didn't pay a lot of attention until after 96. Back then I would just play with ninja turtle and X-men toys when the games were on.

We all see what happen to teams with offensive philosophies from the stone ages and refuse to adjust in the constantly evolving modern NFL. They tend to fall behind in the dark shadows while the dominant, consistently winning teams tend to stay ahead of the pack.

Hope this doesn't happen to us (again).

Personally, I hope Baalke brings in a new OC that can bring in new, fresh, innovative ideas that can give this offense the boost we need to keep up with the rest if the league. If Roman leaves next year, wouldn't want anyone in house. It'd be more of the same Stone Age mentality crap (obviously).

Yep. Look at Belichick. The Patriots have not won a Super Bowl in a long time but that offense is always innovative, and always has them in the conversation. For a team to remain as consistently successful as they have over the years, that says a lot. Since Brees and Payton got to New Orleans, they have been the same way.

I just wish the offense were half as good as the defense. We would have 6 already.
