My prediction is that he gets the franchise tag one season, then bolts to DC for the payday.

I dont think he gets the tag but works out a deal after a struggle of power.

It's a 2 part scenario:
A). If he has an injury free season and puts up really good numbers. Say goodbye. The money he'll demand won't be realistic for us.
B). He misses games and still has a solid season. I think we won't franchise him and he bolts.

Probably. Bottom line is if he ever sees the open market, he's likely to bolt. All it takes is for one team to offer him the moon, and we won't go there.

I don't believe he's demonstrated elite status quite yet, nor should he be pid as such. If another team wants to pay him ridiculous money, let them. We still need to draft a potentially elite WR anyway, and if Patton pans out and Boldin has another great season, or two, we can still present a better passing game than we have to now, esp if Kap continues to improve.

Is Crabtree better than these WRs?
Calvin Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Julio Jones
A.J.Green
Demayrius Thomas
Jordy Nelson
Brandon Marshall
Andre Johnson
Antonio Brown
Desean Jackson
Victor Cruz
Alshon Jeffery
Wes Welker
He's maybe in the top 20 WR. We should take a WR in this draft, maybe even select two WRs. Boldin is gone in 2016, Crabtree a FA and Lloyd a one year rental but who might not make the roster. That leaves us with Patton.

While I agree that Crabtree isn't elite (yet), unfortunately that means very little when it comes to contract negotiations.
As it stands now, the case could be made that he's "better" (or more productive, if you prefer) than Mike Wallace, Percy Harvin and Dwayne Bowe--three of the top-five highest paid receivers in the league (based on average annual salary). And FWIW, I can see him very easily outperforming all of those guys this upcoming season. Should that happen, he and his agent are going to have a very good case that yes worth top-five money. And if we don't pay it to him (which isn't likely in my opinion), then someone else will.
Just the way it works.
This is why I think the Niners need to not spend 1 but 2 of their top 3 picks on WR this year. This is a deep WR class and ranked high. If Crabtree departs after 2014 and Boldin after 2015, heres to hoping both new WR's pan out.
I am NOT sold on Crabtree making elite money. He never seems to make it through any season healthy.

If you want a young stud WR you have to pay for one. We can't dodge that s**t forever.

Harbaugh said it himself, "Crabtree has the best hands of all time", pay Crab $16M/yr.

I believe J. Rice had better hands and Even J. Rice said That Moss was naturally more talented then him just lacked the work habits that would've made him much better then him. Jim was being positive and re-forcing his players which any good coach should always do. Crabtree does have good hands but I would not pay him that kind of money.
