It would probably help Kaps development if he didn't have Crabtree to over focus on.

B.S.

He only had Crabs for half a season and just moved to Boldin as his go to man.

What's BS is forcing throws that ended both of the last two seasons and cost us a 6th Super Bowl ......

Now, Kaepernick is responsible or to blame for the 49ers not winning a 6th Super Bowl.

Of course he's not, he was absolutely perfect his final two throws of the past two seasons. Right on the money, couldn't ask for better endings.....
It isn't that he isn't top 10 or top 5 or even top 3. It is more a matter that we would have too much $$ going to the WR position, esp in a yr that is hailed as the deepest and best in 10-30 yrs. No, Crabs moves on , takes more money and we groom that WR.

Yes - it is a deep WR class - but two MAJOR things. We can draft a POTENTIAL starter, but what is the guarantee we pick right guy?

And secondly, why can't we have Crabtree and a draft pick this year. Even we like to use TWO WRs. (Boldin allows time to develop someone into a starter, but Crabtree is already a bonafide starter.)

I don't mean we pay absolutely anything to keep him, but we need to be looking at having Crabtree stay if the price is agreeable - and still draft guys this year. This year's roster may include Boldin, Osgood and Lloyd, but Crabtree, Patton and any rookies obviously have far more years ahead of them.

I don't expect that he signs before season, but wouldn't be surprised if something is worked out.

I hear ya (perfect)... but look on the bright side, he isn't all buddy buddy in a commercial with wicket willow wilson (looking for a damn chicken wing), he isn't getting all cute & naked for ESPN. This year, he'll improve, a lot... he's totally focused.

Most likely

No way we have a rook start over Boldin. We gave him $12M over 2 seasons. He is our top WR IMO.

While I agree that Crabtree isn't elite (yet), unfortunately that means very little when it comes to contract negotiations.

As it stands now, the case could be made that he's "better" (or more productive, if you prefer) than Mike Wallace, Percy Harvin and Dwayne Bowe--three of the top-five highest paid receivers in the league (based on average annual salary). And FWIW, I can see him very easily outperforming all of those guys this upcoming season. Should that happen, he and his agent are going to have a very good case that yes worth top-five money. And if we don't pay it to him (which isn't likely in my opinion), then someone else will.

Just the way it works.

This is why I think the Niners need to not spend 1 but 2 of their top 3 picks on WR this year. This is a deep WR class and ranked high. If Crabtree departs after 2014 and Boldin after 2015, heres to hoping both new WR's pan out.

I am NOT sold on Crabtree making elite money. He never seems to make it through any season healthy.

This is why I think we should draft Allen Robinson and Jordan Mathews. Both of them.
IF Crabs stays healthy and puts up BIG numbers - there is no way I can see us resigning him. If he doesn't stay healthy and still puts up solid numbers, I feel he'll still test the FA market and go to the highest bidder.

This x 10!

I still like Montcrief.

He consistently beats press coverage, gets separation from top tier CB in SEC. He also has good leaping ability.

We need 2 starting caliber WR from this draft.
Brandon Marshall just got a 3 year 40 million extension with the Bears. Wonder what this means for Crabtree

3/$30 actually
Would rather have drafted Moncrief than Borland.
$10 mil per yr sounds fair for crabs

#3 ILB(#2 until Bowman returns) is a bigger need than a #5 WR. I still don't expect Crabtree to leave, but if he does, I expect Johnson, Patton and Ellington to be able to hold things down along with hopefully Boldin.

This. A lot depends on Kaepernick's contract, if the 49ers can get him around $16 million a season, it opens up the potential of bringing Crabtree back.

There is no way Crabtree deserves Marshall money. Marshall has 7 straight 1000 yard seasons and put up 1500 in 2012. Unless he explodes this year I'll be pretty disappointed if he's signed for anything more than $8mil/yr.. Victor Cruz is making about $8.5mil/yr. and has had a lot better production than Crabtree in his career.

With Boldin and Johnson under contract for 1 and 2 more years than Crabtree, plus Patton/Ellington waiting in the wings, I don't see them bringing Crabtree back unless he has a monster season or comes cheap.
