If he has a monster year, he'll price himself out if the equation and if he doesn't, people will say not he's not worth an elite contract. Personally, he's not worth Marshall money, he may be as good, that's debatable, but Marshall has the numbers to back it up and more importantly he stays on the field. Wouldn't pay Crabtree more than Victor Cruz money and we might not even be able to afford that. I'm in the small minority that would rather give the money to Iupati and take our chances on finding another receiver. We got Boldin and Stevie for almost nothing, Desean was released. Something will come up.

The way I see it, with all the receiving options we have (4 players capable of 1k yds and 10 TDs), the #s will be spread out pretty evenly amongst them and can play a part in offering a lower deal to Crabs due to him not having league leading stats. He can either . . . . . .
1. Take whatever team friendly deal we offer him and remain with a potential dynasty
2. Take the big money elsewhere and watch his career begin to fizzle out in mediocrity and probably become forgotten amongst those sports fans whom are guided by the fairness of the weather
At the end of the day, I hope he re-signs. If not, we'll move on fine without him.

Unless he explodes this year I'll be pretty disappointed if he's signed for anything more than $8mil/yr.. Victor Cruz is making about $8.5mil/yr. and has had a lot better production than Crabtree in his career.
With Boldin and Johnson under contract for 1 and 2 more years than Crabtree, plus Patton/Ellington waiting in the wings, I don't see them bringing Crabtree back unless he has a monster season or comes cheap.
This!! Would love to resign crabs n keep a niner! Stevie said he'd like to retire a niner also...if they keep them on fair but team friendly deals. We will remain strong for many yrs. This remains to be seen, til contract talks begin or anything is finalised!!

I'm 110% certain Baalke won't mortgage the team for Crabs.
His talent is not in question. It remains to be seen if he can stay healthy.
IMO, I feel between he and his agent - they'll be looking for the greenest pasture possible.

I wouldn't mind giving Crabtree a nice incentive laden extension to keep him a 49er for awhile. Hopefully Baalke & company can make this happen after they extend Kaepernick.

I much rather sign Crabtree before Kap because we all know Kap is going to resign

No way they break the bank for Crabtree. He wants to be paid like an elite receiver and he will get the big contract from someone. Is he in the Megatron, AJ Green, Marshal category, the stats say no.

While I think Crabtree is a very good receiver, he is not (currently) among the Elite Receivers in the NFL, and I haven't heard anything to indicate he really wants to stay with the 49er's. I think he still wants to go to Texas to be a Cowboy. Not worth throwing top $$$ at IMHO.
