I get that he doesn't want to play nickel but he should take that money. Matthieu (30yrs old) got 3/33 from the Saints and Justin Reid (25 yrs old) got 3/30 from the Chiefs. I don't get how that's any different from #1 nickel money, which is $10m-$11m APY.

Curious what CGJ gets

Right. this is who they need to be signing

The estimated market value is a 5-year deal, #13.3M/yr. He had a good year but his coverage ratings were just average. Good run support though.

His coverage wasn't great however his interceptions were league leading so there's a trade off and as we saw with Hufanga, turnovers are more important than giving up some yards or even an occasional touchdown here or there

I think his interceptions have more to do with that eagles pass rush. He to me was mediocre in New Orleans and didn't do much, but now supposedly a high sought after safety after playing with the dline with most sacks in the league this past year.

You're right the pass Rush did help a lot and he had major help on the Saints because their pass rush has been top 10 every single year as well. However, he still is a good player and will be over paid much like every free agent
We've been saying this for years but sports salaries are really getting out of hand. Every guy that goes into free agency wants a bigger contract than the last guy signed. Not just bigger but often times 20-30% bigger. Top QBs were signing for $20-30 million just a couple of years ago. Now the average guys are getting that with the top guys asking for $40-50 million AND they want it guaranteed.

I know this isn't our money but who pays for this in the long run. Ticket prices keep increasing. Food prices keep rising. Beer is $12-16 at many stadiums. TV subscriptions keep going up whether it's cable, satellite or streaming. Unfortunately none of this is making the game better. If anything it's worse. Too many players take themselves out of the game for relatively minor things. In the NBA and MLB star players are routinely rested so you pay $150 or more for a ticket and the star players are on the bench.

I'm really glad that I grew up when fathers could afford to take their kids to a game and players played as much for the love of the game as they do for money. Many players lived in regular neighborhoods instead of the fancy homes the stars now have. They held a 2nd job in the off season because they weren't paid huge amounts of money. I know not all players are getting enormous salaries but many of the top ones are out of touch with the average fan. Really sad.

Considering he had an all time great pass rush, why sign a guy that is only average in coverage for that much? May as well go with a vet option and draft a rookie.
From what I've read this is a good deep draft for safety's. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but if Ward leaves and Gibson retires we have a big hole at FS

Draft two and sign a vet. Given that we would be losing Moore, Ward, and Gipson, 3 are needed. Perfect opportunity to take advantage of a nice safety class.

This really sucks. His leadership is going to be missed. I know he's a whipping boy here but his play is so underrated.

Leadership goes to Warner and Bosa now, it's a business and he's just not worth what I'm assuming he got. Great dude and player will always a niner in my eyes.
Damn Niners gonna miss Jimmie Ward. He's awesome and versatile when health. Ryans got his guy to qb the secondary.

That would be Kinlaw and McGlinchey. I think people generally like Jimmie, right?

Damn. Didn't mind having him in the slot. Now it is essential we sign EMan to play opposite Ward then move Lenoir or Womack into the slot…
